anyone remember how many recommendations penn wants? teacher or counselor?

2 from teacher

do they have to be "ACADEMIC teachres

2 teachers and 1 counselor if I remember correctly!
It'd be good if they were both academic, but at the same time I'm guessing they don't both have to be. Having one from a teacher and one which isnt academic related may also show that you are well rounded, and dedicated to something else non-academic related!

does foreign language count as ACADEMIC and do they take out the NON ACADEMIC classes when they calculate your GPA?

I'm not too sure how the GPA is calculataed, but I'm guessing they won't use non-academic classes e.g. P.E.!
A foreign language definetly counts as academic!

2 teacher and 1 counselor? so it didn't say that both teachers had to be academic?

each rec states that you have to give it to a teacher or faculty member who has taught you in an academic subject within the last two years...

uh, yeah it does say that they have to be academic.

I submitted 2 teacher recommendations: my Spanish teacher and Psychology teacher. The Spanish teacher was also the advisor for a number of ECs I was involved in and she mentioned that in her rec. letter.

My guidance counselor also submitted one on her behalf.

I am a leader of National Honor Society and devote quite some time to it during the school year and during the summer...

my math teacher is the sponsor and he knows that I am a dedicated, hard-working student...
but I was deeply challenged by his AP Calculus class and ended up getting a high B, which hurt me.

Despite my grade, would it be wise at all to ask him for rec???

tell me your thoughts please.

A high B is still good. I wouldn't let that deter you from asking him if you were previously considering it. Don't choose him just because he has those two roles, though, you want someone that will show you (and new information) in the best possible light.

would some extra recs be good? like from my supervisors at my internship

Anything that would add new (and pertinent) information to your application would be useful.

I'd reccommend getting recs from teachers that you had more than one year, if you had any. They know you a lot better. If you don't have any teachers like that, don't worry.

how should i send in my additional recs?

do you get to send the recs or does your school send them?

my guidance counselor made me send all 3 recs that I had to every school I applied to. =/ (the school sends mine out so she did that for me)
There are two ways you can think about an extra rec: the adcoms, burdened with a looot of applications, don't want to read an extra recommendation unless it has something completely new/great to offer, or you can think of it as... the worst that can happen is that they don't read one of the recs

well... i'm in this local tv series and i thought it'd be good to send in a rec from the director.
