Recs

From what subjects does Harvard ask the recs be from?Do they have to be core subjects?? I'm planning to have my music teacher and foreign language teacher to write them..

b ump please

they must be core subjects (which includes a foreign lang)... I asked them a couple weeks ago.

Music teacher for private lessons? If so, that would be a supplemental rec.

I would only include the music teacher if, at your school, music is a serious academic class addressing music theory and history. If music is an art elective, then find another academic teacher to write for you.

^it doesnt matter if music is a serious class...

unfortunately... :/

i asked harvard admissions: they told me they specifically want English, science, math, social studies, and foreign language teachers.
a rec from another teacher you could use, but would be supplemental.

wait... so does harvard ask for 2 recs from core classes?
i still want to get one from my school music teacher because i founded an orchestra at school and my teacher would have a lot to write about.

Harvard wants 2 teacher evaluation (from core subjects) and 1 optional supplemental recommendation.

I recommend that you ask your music teacher to write a supplemental rec anyway since it seems that she knows you pretty well.

would it hurt my chances if i get my 2 recs from the foreign language teacher and the music teacher at school? im not sure if any other core subject can write me an outstanding one..

The Common Application form specifically asks you to get two recommendations from your 'academic teacher'. But I guess it's up to you.

"Fill in the information below and give this form and a stamped envelope, addressed to each college to which you are applying that requests a Teacher Evaluation, to a teacher who has taught you an academic subject."

Check the teacher evaluation sheet.
