Recycling an Essay

Okay - So I am REALLY happy with how my optional 'page 217' essay for Penn turned out. Would it be a cardinal sin to use it on another transfer application that has a very vague essay question?

I wouldn't be trying to sneak anything passed an adcom - I fully expect them to know it's from Penn. I just think it is one of my best college essays yet. Would it be inappropriate to perhaps mention something along the lines of "Yes I used this for Penn's essay, but it is a great representation of me as a person" in the "anything else we need to know" section. Part of me feels like if I used it, it would be a good idea to just come out and admit it so it's not as if I'm being lazy. But then another part of me tells me I shouldn't use it at all. What do you think?

PS - This other institution is also of the ivy league variety, if that makes any difference.

Yes. It is appropriate to use it for another. They all know you are (or should be) applying to more than one school for transfer.

If I were you, I would find a way to introduce the meat of your essay without the reference that it is page 317 of your autobiography (I'm just assuming that was the prompt).

I would definitely not make reference that it was the essay you used for Penn - waste space, diversion of attention from you, apologizing where you don't need to.

It is not lazy to use a great essay on as many apps as you can - you worked hard on it; it is your best; it tells what you want to tell. No apologies needed.
