Schools probably don't keep files of records, so do you think its a bad idea to re-apply to a school with the same essay? Unless i have really bad luck and the same admissions officer reads it again. What do you think? Too risky?

Most schools do in fact keep files. The thing is, they barely have time to evaluate you as is. I highly doubt they go back and look at last year's essays too.

That said, how do you know it wasn't partly your essays that kept you out? I'd write new ones unless you thought the old ones were particularly strong.

Yeah, probablly the essays weren't that strong to begin with, so you should probablly write a new one.

Im talking about re-applying to schools i already got into last year. I didn't want to go there last year, but decided i might want to transfer there now. is it bad to use the same essay?

If they were essays that you wrote as a high school student, no matter how long ago that might be, I'd say it's totally out of the question. Schools will be looking for signs that you've gleaned some knowledge off of whatever college education you've had so far, which translates to essays that are more intellectually complex and, dare I say it, more mature.

If you're reapplying as a transfer, well, it seems iffy. I wouldn't do it, but if you want to take that risk I don't see any REAL reason not to, other than that if they find out, they'll write you off as being pretty lazy.
