red and blue crew and eagles

i am a very avid sports fan and plan on going to all of the basketball and football games. I would like to know how I should go about becoming part of the
"red and blue crew", and finding other students who are as into the sports as i am. Also is there nay way to finds kids who are also philadelphia eagles fans? Are there clubs I can join or something next year?

Unfortunately, the number of big sports fans around here is rather small (I’m one of them). The best way to meet these people (as a frosh) is to go down to the first rows at a football game and introduce yourself. It may seem intimidating, but they’ll be glad to see a new big fan face. These people are generally big basketball fans too.

When Basketball season rolls around (the bigger sport around here) there’ll be announcements for people to be “Line leaders” - these are the biggest fans who run the camping out event for other season ticket holders, and they are the ones who design the t-shirts and rollouts. This year, they also put out a call for people to join them, but I think the team’s performance has impacted that success :-)

As for the Eagles, everyone in Philadelphia is a fan. Get yourself a fake id so you can go to the bars for the games. There isn’t really any way to meet anyone on campus (your best bet is to get off campus there, or to just talk to everyone in your classes, etc.).

thanks mattwonder. is it a good idea to be a line leader your first year since I obviously know nothing about it, or is it better to just work my way into the group as a frosh. also how many kids make up the “loyal” red and blue crew who show up at all the bball games, which is the sport I would be following most.

I’d say there’s maybe 50-100 people who are there every game, and are totally into it. Of course, normal student attendance is much, much higher but those people don’t go to every single game and get all into it. If you think you’re really interested, try to be a line leader - that’s the best way to meet other big fans. Use the football season as an opportunity to meet other Penn fans - you’ll likely meet me and my friends that way, at least.

What if our NFL loyalties don’t lie with the Eagles..?

You will be summarily shunned.

hahaha, are you asking me where you can meet people on campus who aren’t Eagles fans? you’re on your own. This is Philadelphia, after all.

(as an aside, there a few bars in Philly known for being Steelers fan hangouts)

Oh, if I get into Penn I’m gonna go to all the games as well…How’s the soccer team? I love football and I love basketball, but soccer is awesome as well. I will not be supporting the Eagles though…I’ve got to stray clear from the Phillies as well.

Unfortunately, no one goes to soccer games. Ever notice how college FB and BB are on TV, but you never see a soccer game? When they do the whole eastern expansion thing, I’ve heard they’re going to move fields around so Rhodes won’t be so out of the way, but that may very well not happen until 2020 or so.

how should i go about becoming a line leader, and is it usual for a freshmen to be one

The Eagles suck… the band’s great

You’ll hear about it at some point during the fall. Don’t worry about it until then.

No one as in like absolutely no one, or are there a few die hards? I’d be down with being a die hard. Definitely’d go to the football and basketball games.

Absolutely no one, unless your frat brother or best friend is on the team. It’s probably on par with tennis, squash, or fencing. (As in, there’s football and basketball, and then everything else. For a while there wrestling got some attention when we were winning natl titles)

There are probably twenty of us who go to the games at my school, and it’s all frat brothers and friends. It’s a good time though. I don’t know with football here, there’s no point because it’s D-3. With Penn at least you have the opportunity to beat Harvard in Football and to beat Princeton in Basketball. There are rivalries and traditions. That’s magic.
