I took a practice test in the red book and got a 28 (30-E 26-M 28-R 27-S). Is this accurate to what i will probably make on the ACT. Im taking it in December, but i heard the ACT has been getting a little harder.

I would estimate your range to be a 26-30.

I made a 27 on the PLAN which is 28-32 estimated scoring range if that helps you predict my scoring range.

I just took the practice test in the Preparing for the ACT 2012-13 booklet and made a 28 (30-E 28-M 26-R and 28-S). Is this a better indicator than the red book?

Try to also take practice tests from Barrons if you have the time, I personally feel that I’d rather be over prepared! Good Luck! (:

anything from the red book is no longer accurate, i was expecting a 32/33 on the october ACT since those were the scores I had been getting on the official practice tests in the Red book and the booklets online…I finished with a 29

The Red Book is ok for guidance ! My son was getting 32-33 in math ended up with a 27! He did get 36 on both reading and science sections which is what he was scoring (34-36) on Red Book Practice. For English I’d say to memorize the Red Book Rules and you’ll do fine. Make sure, if taking the writing component , you give the counter argument as well as a good introduction and two pages! If you do not give the counter argument you will loose points! That happened to my son since he assumed preparing for the SAT writing was enough! It was a real shocker! The old adage " pay attention to directions"! Very important! Best of luck to all!

What about the Preparing for the Act 2012-2013 booklet because I got the same score (28) on that as I did in the red book, so is that a good range estimate since its more recent?

Bump bump…

I’m interested to hear more feedback on this question as well. I’ve taken all the Redbook practice tests, and scores have always ranged from 31-35 (science section is really toss-up). To students who have used the red book and also taken the official ACT in the recent years: Are these scores accurate? If the ACT is harder (I assume that it is), which sections did you notice specific difficulty increases on?

Thanks for the response!

Bump bump bump

I think my PLAN told me I’d be in the 31-34 range or something along those lines. I remember that 31 was the bottom score, not 100% what the top was. I took 4 practice tests before my first ACT. I think I scored something like (in order chronologically): 31, 33, 33, 34. I ended up dropping back down to a low 31 when I actually took the test. Mainly I was an idiot and screwed up on the science section (I was a little overconfident, I guess, and was lollygagging around a bit on that section).

I’m taking the test again on Saturday. Thus far I’ve scored 34 twice on practice exams (the second time a bit lower than the first). I sorta feel like the more you approach 36, the more difficult it is to accurately predict what happens on test day… There are a lot of variables. I dunno, I could be wrong. Just my two cents. (:
