I'll be taking my SAT in October and was wondering if there are any breaks between the various sections of the test and whether vr allowed to drink red bull or something during those breaks.

there are couple of 5 min breaks, but i'm not sure what's their regulation on food and beverage

anybody know the regulations???

isnt red bull dangerous?

just put it in a water bottle or something

I read something once about how it is important to take tests under similar biochemical conditions to those you used while studying. If you study with Red Bull, take Red Bull with the SATs.

i took red bull in the middle of the sat, you get like 5 minute breaks and i just brought it in the hall with me.

yeah you cant have it on the desk with you. they tell you to put all your stuff under the chair.. just put the can under your chair and during the 5 min break chug it.

As I recall...there are 3 breaks. There are 2 stretch breaks and one 5 minute break. They are spaced out like Sections 1-3, Stretch Break, Sections 4-5, 5 minute break, Sections 7-8, Stretch break, Sections 9-10. I am not entirely sure but I am fairly confident.

Anyways...yes caffeine is most definitely your friend. Beware using caffeine for the first time on the day of the test...you may become crazy and make careless mistakes. I use caffeine to keep my mind clear and focused. BTW, Red Bull pales in comparison to Monster or RockStar in terms of energy. Red Bull is pretty crappy.

Excedrin has 65 mg of caffeine per pill. A Red Bull has 120mg caffeine.
Instead of having to take the time to ingest RB, why not just take 2 excedrin?

there are caffeine pills out there too. that taste like poop...

I drank a sobe adrenaline rush(which has the same amount of caffeine as a red bull) after section 6. Section 7 was a math section, and my head was kinda spinning with that one, but I'm good at math, so it wasn't too difficult. Though, after that section it wore off, and I was awake for 8, 9 and 10, which were CR and Writing, stuff you need a ton of concentration for, and the places where the fatigue of the test sets in for some students.

I saw definite results, my scores went up 140 points, with 100 points in CR.

It depends. Really, do what you think is right.

The proctor isn't going to give you trouble about Red Bull. Heck, it's better than water, you can write on the labels of water and cheat.

Now, if you want to have a red bull, and you enjoy/drink the drink regularly, it could potentially help your fatigue. One thing to consider is that the caffeine and other chemicals in Red Bull "cleanse". That is to say, if you have a quick metabolism already, you will have to pee more regularly. If you drink it regularly without issue, than go ahead.

Red Bull is NOT dangerous. It has caffine (which we have ingested for decades), Taurine (chemical that has been found to have positive effects for decades. It reduces muscle fatigue, which is why it is in Red Bull), and random other stuff that is in plenty of other food & drink.

Just get hydrated too! Make sure that you are not dehydrated before drinking Red Bull; it temporarily causes your kidneys to absorb less water, which is why you pee more. Drink plenty after the test!

Unless you are used to drinking red bull during your sat practices, do not drink red bull. It is common knowledge that you are not supposed to eat/drink foods that are usually not part of your diet prior or on the sat. If you constantly drink red bull and you are used to it, then go ahead and do so. But I can say firmly for a lot people that red bull on the test might make you crazy. I know that the couple times I have had an energy drink I cannot concentrate less, and thus make frequent careless mistakes.

BTW constantly drinking energy drinks does have a few harmful effects for the body, do not think they are harmless. I cannot think of many from the top of my head since I read this somewhere a while ago, but I remember it being horrible for your liver.

Red Bull makes me sick! Try 5-hour energy (or something like that). It seems to work. I get it at 7-11.

I don't know if energy drinks are the way to go because the huge caffeine surge is followed by a pullback of energy when it goes away. You don't want to do that to yourself unless you take it towards the end of your test. The problem with that is that it'll be lukewarm and lukewarm soda is gross!

ok thnx everybody for the advice...

BTW can i take a water bottle with me?
