My daughter can't attend the Kelley Direct Admit weekend in March because of a conflict. She's debating about attending a Red Carpet Day instead. However, when we read the description of Red Carpet Day it sounded very similar to the Discover IU tour that we took this fall.

If anyone has been on both, was there a lot of new info presented on the Red Carpet Day tour or is it basically the same thing as the Discover IU tour?

Thanks for any insight!

I haven’t been to a Discover IU tour but I can tell you what happens on a Red Carpet day. First, you are given a brief presentation congratulating you for being admitted to IU, with some speeches about what IU has to offer and such. They serve breakfast foods like bagels and orange juice right beforehand, so that’s nice. You then get a campus tour, which I believe is pretty much the same tour that they ordinarily give prospective students. After that, I believe they have academic sessions with IU’s various schools… journalism, business, etc. I didn’t attend that part so I really can’t comment much about it. Overall, it’s a nice intro to IU but I don’t think it’d do much for you if you’ve already visited IU and been given a tour.

If you do go a Red Carpet day, don’t do it between April 10th-17th (Little 5). Your parents will not be impressed.

Thanks so much for your help. The Red Carpet day sounds very similar to the tour we took last fall. The only difference is that we didn’t get served breakfast.

My daughter’s decided to do an overnight visit this spring instead of attending a Red Carpet day. She won’t be visiting during Little 500 weekend, though. Don’t think my nerves could handle it. :)
