What is the difference with the Red Carpet Day’s from some of the other programs that IU offers. We signed up to attend one but after reading the schedule, not really sure what we are going to see differently than the IU Scholarship presentation we went to this past summer. Looks like a lot of similar activities as far as the panel, meeting with the School of your intended major, etc.
The big difference that I see is that they offer some specific tours that we haven’t been on before. We are only about 1 1/2 hours away from IU so we plan to go but just curious if there is anything we are going to learn that we haven’t really already seen or heard.
It will probably be very similar, but you’ll likely learn a few things that you didn’t know before. Direct admit day is definitely worth going to and has some different activities than a standard visit day, but all of the other events I attended were kind of the same.
My D finally received her official notification that she is Direct Admit to the School of Education. They are having an event in our area on March 1st that we are going to go to. We had already signed up to go to Red Carpet days on March 3rd so probably going to hear a lot of redundant information. Doesn’t sound like the School of Ed does a DA day like you Kelly DA’s get. Still, some nice perks for her intended major and say’s she will be notified of any scholarship awards by March 1st.
So just came back from a Red Carpet day yesterday. Here is a basic run down of events. There is a continental breakfast where they will take your picture on the Red Carpet, you mingle with some of the IU representatives and all the tour guides were in there so it was nice to chat and learn more about some of their activities and clubs. There was representatives from admissions, housing and Financial Aid there as well. You then go into the auditorium and there is a presentation about IU.
Next you break into small groups for a tour. This is a different tour than the general admissions tour and I would say a lot better. Just seemed like you saw more of the campus and a bit more detail around the parts of campus that you don’t get on the regular admissions tour. Back to the auditorium for a panel discussion and then you are officially done with the basic activities.
If you signed up for additional tour or sessions those start around 2pm so you have a good hour and a half to explore and grab some lunch. Since my D was accepted into the INSPIRE LLC, we arranged a visit with that LLC and we were able to tour Spruce Hall. The LLC for those interested is 54 students with an emphasis in education. The INSPIRE LLC is on the 1st floor of Spruce and we were able to tour the floor. Much nicer than just the regular dorm tour on the admissions tour.
