My son and I visited UNL this weekend to attend the Red Letter Day held on 3/16/2018. My son is OOS and received a very good merit package from UNL, so we wanted to visit and learn as much as possible during a short time period. It was a well-run, very organized event which provided a great overview of the university. We were able to attend 2 academic sessions broken out by major, 2 Student Engagement sessions (things like Greek Life, Education Abroad, a Student Panel, Diversity Connections, etc), tour the university including a dorm and academic buildings, eat lunch (very good) at one of the cafeterias, and also attend an optional tour of the football stadium at the end of the day (which was awesome). We got the impression that students can thrive here academically, the campus was very nice, and the students involved in the events were engaged, as were the faculty and staff. There is a lot of excitement about athletics, of course with the football team, but also with women’s volleyball, the basketball team, and other sports. Seems like a friendly, open culture with much school pride. Admission folks mentioned that joining the Big 10 has broadened their exposure and created more OOS interest. We came in knowing nothing about Lincoln, but came away with an appreciation of the city. The Haymarket area is an especially nice and condensed area with lots of food and entertainment options. Not the shortest trip from New England, but glad we made it!
Theojohn! Completely agree with you. We were out there in October for an event and are heading back next week. We just loved the friendly atmosphere. We are from the east too.
