Redesigned SAT

Can anyone please tell about the redesigned SAT?Is it hard than the previous SAT?Will I have to take the old or new SAT if I am planning to enroll in the fall 2017?

You will take the new SAT. It will be different, “harder” is subjective. You can take a new practice test free at Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/sat

@aefsdghd89 I’ve only given the new SAT a cursory look, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. The math section does seems to be a bit harder, but not extravagantly so. The writing and reading sections seem about the same or slightly easier.

For the graduating class of 2017, colleges will accept both the new and old SATs. They had a similar policy for students when the SAT was last redesigned in 2005. Of course, you shouldn’t take my word for it! Call the schools you are most interested in to confirm.

I would advise taking the CURRENT SAT (there should be a test date in October), because it is a “known” test. If you take the NEW SAT, you’ll have to deal with (likely) an unpolished exam. It’s the same reasoning you don’t want to buy the first version of a new device; it’s bound to have bugs, warts, and all manners of inconsistencies.

For Class of 2018, your only SAT option may be the new one. Yale has already decided that will be its policy.

The multiple-choice verbal section is definitely easier, but that’s based on the sample questions. Students have to trust that the samples are similar in difficulty to the administered full tests. (Personally, I think they will be, based on everything Coleman has said, but the first run is always a gamble.)

As to the essay, it’s always ridiculous (has been for10 years) when people say “no essay” or “optional essay” for the new SAT or for the ACT. If you’re applying to a top 20, count on your competition having done the essay! Demanding colleges even below top 20 will want to see the essay, period. You will do well in the essay if you have taken AP Lang or if you have been taught rhetoric. It’s all about that.
