I'm almost positive that I'm reading these qeustions wrong, cause somebody must've brought this up before...can you guys help? I'm applying to the arch. department, and there are two questions on the supplement that ask basically the same thing:
"What aspirations, experiences, or relationships have motivated you to pursue the study of architecture?"

"With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study.'

now these are two different questions, yes, but when you're applying to the school of architecture they both basically ask "Why do you want to study architecture?" Or maybe its just me -.- I don't know.

Yeah, they do basically ask the same question. I’d say that the second question is really geared towards those who aren’t applying to the school of architecture and therefore do not have to do that essay B(in other words, the majority of their applicants). That’s not to say that you shouldn’t answer that second question though.

Yeah…I want to answer both, but I know that even if I write two different essays they’re going to say the same thing. that’s my problem really, that I don’t know how to write two essays to answer the same question.

As always, when you have questions about the application, send an email or call the Rice admissions office. I suggest you ask the admissions officer what is the main difference between the two questions for architecture students. Good luck!

Kind of unrelated, but does anyone want to explain why so many architecture schools (within colleges) require their own additional essay?

I’ve already e-mailed the admissions dept, but they didn’t answer yet and time is running out… I don’t know why they require their own essay, I didn’t even know it was that common. Maybe because they’re more selective?
