Could everyone who applied post their stats and whether or not they got in? They're always very helpful to people applying, as many of us can attest.

2230 SATs (800 verbal, 760 writing, 670 math)
690 SAT II Lit, 650 Math II
4.3 GPA/Full IB Diploma (4 HL classes)
National, Social Studies, and French Honor Societies

Varsity Crew Freshman and Sophmore year, tutoring Junior and Senior year, Science fair (winner @ regionals) Freshman and Sophmore Year

plus I flew out in November to visit (live in NoVA) and had a pretty nice interview, idk how much that helps.

Accepted!

Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.9/4.00 UW
SAT: cr: 680 m: 530 w: 660 essay 11
ACT: N/a
SAT IIs: N/A
Rank: 5/130ish
AP classes: AP english language and composition, AP english lit, AP U.S. Govt (online), AP US Psych (online), AP Calc, AP Bio
AP tests: AP English Language and Composition: 4

Essays: I think they were good, except my "Why Reed" was almost embarrassingly enthusiastic (I don't remember exactly, but I believe the word "awesome" was used...as in, "Thesising sounds awesome!")
Recomendations: Good! I really liked the one from my english teacher, wonderfully perceptive. The counselor rec was probably not very good, but we have one counselor for 500+ kids, and most of his energy goes towards students who are on the verge of dropping out

ECs:
Drama Club-4 years, handful of plays, Treasurer
Golf-varsity letter, 3 years
School Board Representative, 2 years
Sophomore Class VP (...pretty insignificant, I don't think I even put it down)
Animal Shelter Volunteer-2 years, several hours per week
Key Club 4 yrs: VP, Pres, Editor
FBLA 4 years: Treasurer for 2 of them, won awards at regional competition
Guitar lessons
Diversity Club-3 years, facilitated workshop at Diversity Camp
Interview: I toured and interviewed in August. My interviewer was very nice, but as far as interviews go...it was lukewarm.

Location
State or Country: Washington state
Description of school: Public, small, crappy and ghetto, not competitive
Ethnicity:Caucasian and Native american
Gender: Female
Hook?: Come from crappy area (less than 30% of the graduating class goes to college) enrolled in/worked for tribe

It's nice that Reed took into consideration all the factors (less than impressive public school, low-income area) and didn't eliminate me for my crappy stats.

GPA: school doesn't calculate GPA, but I guess my average would be B+/B
ACT: 29
SAT: cr: 630 m: 600 w: 670 essay 10
Rank: No class rank
AP: school doesn't offer any AP's

Essays: My essays definitely helped me. They were a lot better than my ACT/SAT scores would suggest.

ECs: I don't feel like typing out the whole list, but I've done a lot of volunteer work, have had two work internships (one non-profit, the other at a law firm), co-editor of school newspaper, run a club at school, as well as an organization outside of school. Plus some other little things.

Interview: It was my first interview, but it was ok. Not spectacular though.

I'm Hispanic, that definitely helped me. And I go to, what some may say to be, a really prestigious private school, so that also must've helped.

Honestly, I am pretty surprised I got accepted. My grades and test scores were pretty low, but I guess they believed I was a good fit.

Waitlist

SAT: 2100
SATII: 790 bio, 740 math
ACT: 32
GPA: 4.0 w
APs: Bio (5) USH (4); US gov, calc AB, English lit - TBD

Volunteer: 200+ hrs
Work: full time summer/winter breaks (paid internship @ architectural firm)
ECs: lit magazine (board), GSA (board), youth group (board), speech team (varsity, medaled), scholastic bowl (varsity), model UN

White, female, midwestern, (top 250-ranked) public school

Excellent teacher recs, but I have no clue what my counselor wrote (I think I've seen my counselor...twice? Ever?).

Brilliant commonapp essay, but I think my Why Reed essay was a little lacking. Also, my previously written sample was weak; because I recycle all of my old papers, I didn't have much to choose from. Who would have thought that being environmentally friendly could hurt me??

Anyway, congrats to the admits :)

Accepted!

GPA: 3.85 UW
SAT: 750 CR, 760 M, 770 W (2280 total)
SAT II's: 710 Chem, 740 Math II, 790 World History
Rank: School doesn't rank

Essays: Alright I guess. Common app essay was a (heavy) modification of my UChicago essay, and my Why Reed essay talked about two people I've known who are linked to Reed – my amazing 8th grade English teacher who's an alumna and my friend who is a freshman at Reed.

EC's: Lots of theatre, including the lead in a student-run community production. Also mock trial, co-founded an improv troupe at my school, and lots of violin. I do the pit orchestra for all my school's musicals (since I can't sing, haha).
Interview: I thought it was pretty good. We actually took longer than we were supposed to.
Recommendations: I'm not sure, never saw any of them. My counselor rec was probably alright. I'm starting to think that maybe my teacher recs were really good, considering where I've gotten in. I also got a supplemental rec from the director of the theatre camp/program (non-profit) that I've been a part of during the past two summers.

Location: Chevy Chase, Maryland (literally right next to Washington, DC... my house is the last in Maryland on my street)
School Type: Public, decent-sized, and very good. Not so sure about competitive... I guess there's competition at the top, but not so much anywhere else.
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Caucasian

Oh, and the writing sample! Mine was an essay I wrote in AP English Lit on King Lear. This year in Lit I've been pretty bad about getting stuff done on time... every comment my teacher wrote on the paper was positive, except at the end she wrote "Try to turn in your papers on time!" and gave me a B+. Maybe Reed liked that I sent that in... haha

Aaaaaaah I'm incredibly excited. My dad isn't very enthusiastic about Reed, since to him it's just another small liberal arts college, and we have plenty of those on the East Coast within driving distance. But I do know that in the end it's my decision, and I'm prepared to jump through whatever hoops I must... I think the odds that I'll choose Reed are very good!

accepted!

my stats:

GPA: 3.9/4.0 UW
SAT: 750 (Math); 720 (Writing); 800 (Reading); very bad essay. :)
SAT IIs: 720 (Math II); 780 (Korean w/ listening); 760 (literature)
Rank: 12 of 636
Full-IB; 5 HL classes this year.

Essays: Decent for Common App, not particularly inspired. "Why Reed?", on the other hand, was a risky one...it was a love letter, of all things! Soooo embarrassing now that I think about it...

Graded writing sample: Oddly enough, this was my least favorite part of the application. All of the decent, typed ones were not commented on, so I sent a paper from fall semester (junior year) that just screamed, "I'm pants at writing analytical papers! I'm a bundle of inexperience!"

Recommendations: I haven't asked to see them, but I think that my first teacher's rec. letter was fantastic! (I firmly believe it was 75% responsible for landing me a scholarship at another school) The other was probably great, but not as glowing. Counselor's letter was probably good.

ECs/awards (pretty lowly, as far as CC goes...):
School orchestra- 4 yrs; section leader (jr.); concertmaster (sr.)
youth symphony orchestra- 4 yrs. (concerto competition winner, soloist for a concert)
praise team (youth group)- 1 yr.
Solo/ensemble winner '06 (small brass division). went to state '07 and '08.
WA all-state chamber orchestra
All-northwest honor orchestra
Key Club- 3 yrs
violin lessons- 9 yrs (doesn't really count)
recreational art- many yrs. (guest cartoonist for school paper)
honor society (lol...does this count?)

Location
State or Country: Washington
Description of school: Public, fair size, suburb, pretty laid back (but still has superb students), IB program (and 1 AP class) offered.
Ethnicity: Korean-American
Gender: Female
Hook?: I'm the generic, violin-playing Asian girl. I have no idea why Reed wants me. :)

Accepted.

GPA: 3.9, no honors/AP available at my school
ACT: 33 Composite
Other stats: There aren't any. I'm a firm believer in not bombarding schools with numbers.

Essays: Wicked. No form of writing suits me more than a personal essay.
Recs: Never read any. My counselor is a Reed alumni, and her rec should've been glowing. My teacher recs probably said I'm lazy and a smartass, but smart.
Writing Sample: I grabbed a research paper I did for law on Brown v. Board. Nothing spectacular, but solid.
ECs: Leader of new student support groups, co-head of the student cafe, RA (I go to a boarding school), piano, studio artwork, tv production with two documentaries broadcasted on local tv.

Location: MD
School: Private boarding, theatre & arts
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female

Essays: Decent for Common App, not particularly inspired. "Why Reed?", on the other hand, was a risky one...it was a love letter, of all things! Soooo embarrassing now that I think about it...

just wait four years. ;)

so is Reed great? or wierd? who feels most comfortable there?

son accepted, financially won't be able to attend

SAT: 2090 (M 690, CR 670, W 730)
WGPA: 4.2
UWGPA: 3.55
Rank: 141/736 (Really bad, I know. It's my weak point)
SAT II: Lit 740, US Hist 730
Awards and Activites: Commended National Merit, Hispanic National Merit, President of Environmental Club, Historian of Theater Club, 2008 UIL Best Actor Award, 2007 UIL Ensemble Cast Award, 4 months work experience, etc...

The acceptance email/ animation/ video thing was pretty cool, I thought.

accepted, will attend!

ACT: good enough
GPA: weighted, unweighted.. who knows? I've maintained about a B+/A- average all four years of high school.
ECs: art, volunteer, field hockey, internships, newspaper
Hook? I was myself and a good match for Reed I suppose...

No but really, if I could give any advice for people planning to apply next year it would be to definitely have an overnight before applying. Make friends with as many people in admissions as possible. Be prepared to blow away your interviewer. The writing is extremely important. My standardized testing scores were pretty below the average for Class of 2012, but I am pretty sure it was my writing samples and personality that saved me.

sigh after reading all the fabulous stats I feel like my chance for Reed would go way down arggg... I'm a transferring applicant though....>.<

Think again RogueXgirl. My daughter's SAT scores were respectable but not great (620 verbal, 610 math, 610 writing) and she was accepted although won't attend because of the cost. I believe her strengths aren't "testable" and Reed is able to see that. They were able to see that in her interview, essays, and writing sample. Don't let the stats on this forum guide your decision.

Thanks al390dunkwa. I am a transfer student so hopefully they dont care too much about SAT. I have a good GPA in college, somewhat activities, I think my essays are okay... but thing is, I am an international student and applying for aid, my FC isnt very high... so it makes it more competitive to get in sigh Oh well, all I can do now is wait for the decision :)

Wow, I must have had the worst test scores ever or something. O_o

ACCEPTED

GPA: 3.75/4
SAT: 1790 :(
ACT: 32
SAT IIs: High 500s to low 600s :(
Rank: 75 out of 500 something
AP classes: 6 AP classes this year, with 5 APs from previous years
AP tests: US 5, World 5, Psych 4, English 4

Essays: I thought I did fairly well and expression a lot of genuine interest in the school. Was probably one of the stronger points in my application.

Recommendations: I'm guessing they were quite phenomenal. I had two wonderful teachers and one councilor write them, and they each knew me fairly well.

ECs: A bunch of school clubs, mostly cultural and art based.

Additional Info: I've done research with a lab at our local hospital, spent the last summer studying at Cambridge University, UK, and the year before that at our state governor's school.

Accepted.

GPA: 3.6/4 (not very good in my school)
SAT: 2160 (1410 on the old version)
SAT II: US History 710, English Lit 710
AP's: My school did not offer AP classes, but I took these for the hell of it: US Hist 5, Euro Hist 5, English Lit 5

Essays: Mentioned a ton of Reed-specific things (including their posters) and highlighted some interests of mine (like German)

Rec's: One from my German teacher to support the interest in the language and one from my English teacher.

EC's: cultural clubs and writing clubs

Location: New York City--my school is a prep school geared towards kids of a lower income bracket, but this does not help all that much when the school kills my GPA and all other Reed applicants also go into Yale/Brown/etc.

Additional Info: Study abroad for a moth in Germany/annual Oktoberfest skit. I also found a loophole in the "Writing Sample" submission that allowed me to submit graded creative writing instead of a research paper, which was useful because I have a habit of tossing those research ones out.
