Hi! This is for the class of 2020 applying early decision to Reed. Post your stats? What do you guys think of the new supplement?
“Why Reed” was certainly easier though through the new supplement, one might be able to show more about what he brings to the table. And, I sooo wanna get in ED…International Student here!
International Here. I’ll be applying RD for Reed.
@Shulav I’m an international too! Im really hoping I get in ED too, with a sufficient aid package.
I’m not an international, but I’m still definitely going to apply to Reed ED2. I need more time to show them the upwards trend in my grades along with finishing taking the subject tests. I’m a bit discouraged though since I got rejected from ROME. As for the new writing supplement with I want to write about teaching a class where it goes about analyzing the animation/music of the Gorilaz (who are awesome)
btw I’ll be applying EDII and not ED. My supp is on teaching how to make homemade cricket balls. @blueshoe00 I need loads of aid too, close to a full ride to attend.
Also @blueshoe00 what are your stats? Would love to hear.
I’d like to apply ED to Reed but the financial aid is so iffy with them I think I’m better holding out for RD.
Current senior @Shulav
I dont know my GPA/Rank because my school does not report it. Graduating Class size of 400. In the A level System.
O Level Courses: Bio, Chem, Physics, Math, EM, English, Urdu. (4 A*, 3 A)
A Level Courses: Bio, Chem, Physics, English
ACT: 30/36 ©
Math: 29 Science: 28 Reading: 32 English: 32 Writing: ? (not out yet)
I have worked hard on my extra curriculars. I’ve been Editor of my School Magazine, and yearbook, and been in Student Council throughout. Currently I’m Student Council President. A lot more to add as well.
Recommendation wise I am getting the teacher who taught me for Chemistry and English. My counsellor recommendation will be amazing because I have a great relationship with her.
I would like to major in Biology.
What other information can one provide??
Somewhere between international and domestic student. Applying ED2! I just had my interview a few hours ago with an alumnus p, and it couldn’t have gone better! Fantastic guy and overall a great time. I think my “class” will be teaching how to teach. Hahaha, I used to be an English teacher, so we’ll see how that goes!
I’m wishing the best for you guys, Reed is a gem we’re so lucky to have found. Anyone else doing interviews?
I’m re-taking the SAT next month(for the third, and God willing, the last time haha), along with the MathII and Physics subject tests in December… Each and every one of us has an amazing story to tell, we just need to know how to tell it!
Can anyone tell me about disadvantages of applying ED2 instead of ED?
@AGoodFloridian I don’t think internationals are given alumini interviews. But, I’m not much sure. So, I guess I wont be doing one.
@blueshoe00 I’m doing my A level too, A2 right now. Is that English Lang & Lit? I take GP, Maths, F.Maths, Chem, phys and CS. and 33 ACT (Didnt do much good in the reading section, got a 29)…GPA is 3.95…average-ish ECs, some leadership positions…and will take SAT2 Phys and Maths 2 this November…thinking of majoring in physics…I think that the best part of my app will be the recs…not so sure bout the others!
@Shulav Alumni interviews are given if you are an international student - depending on if your location is on their website. go to the interviews section on the website and check out alumni interviews. Also, your stats seem great! I did English Language in O Levels and am now doing GP in A levels. I will be taking SAT 2 in Bio and Physics this november.
@Shulav I don’t think there should be a real difference between the two ED’s - I could be wildly wrong though
@blueshoe00 is right. The only difference between the two is the notification dates really. Most people choose ED2 in case they want to squeeze in any extra tests or activities until the end of the year, which is my case actually. If you feel as though your situation as a whole won’t be changing much towards the end of the year, just apply for ED1 But it’s up to you!
@AGoodFloridian Hey I’m applying ED2 for those exact reasons and actually had my interview in Florida on Saturday. It went pretty well, I write a lot and have done historical research for IB so we talked about the themes of my poems/conclusions of research. Also my interviewer was from Ghana and my parents are Ethiopian immigrants so I ended up rambling to him about how the media needs to stop describing Africa as “the dying continent”. Unfortunately I did stumble upon the question"Tell me about yourself" and for a second muttered “Ummm” and said “I was born in Rhode Island” but found my footing eventually. Because they’ll get a picture of who you are through the answers from your interview (really dreaded that question
@Loonytunes This is random, but, you’re Ethiopian? Sweet! (Fellow Ethio immigrant here as well)
@Loonytunes
I cannot believe that, we got the same interviewer! Man, what a fantastic guy he is, right? I did my interview on Friday, at 4:30. After he introduced himself, I talked so much that I managed to answer most of his questions without him even having to ask them hahaha I think I did a fairly good job in showing my passions and how I would be a good fit for Reed.
And don’t worry about stumbling on that question, it’s not often we have to describe ourselves. At least you didn’t have some formulated, already thought of answer. You were original, and Reed loves that! Im crossing my fingers for you man, hopefully we see each other next Fall!
