Reed EA 2022

My daughter got an acceptance e-mail 4 hours ago. ED 2 - just so you all know. Good luck to all

Frustrating that ED2 is receiving notices, but not EA yet. And I thought Reed didn’t notify by email? (International, maybe?)

international here…NO NEWS so far

So no EA’s have heard?

My daughter is EA here in NH. Nothing yet. As an admissions person myself I am not surprised they focused on the ED2 first, those people have in essence already “accepted” Reed as their school. Reed knows those are essentially yielded students. Once they know those they can be more comfortable with EA decisions. The slots are limited and they need to ensure the best incoming class possible. It’s not 1s and 0s though, there are subtleties and complexities. Try to stay positive and patient if you can

I called today and they said decisions have been made and we should hear by the end of this week. Fingers crossed!!

@Gelato1128 that’s good news! I’m glad to hear it. Still, I wonder whether those of us on the East Coast or further from mail distribution centers will get our decisions by then… fingers crossed…

Anyone see anything on Fedex?

no :frowning:

guys do you mind sharing your stats ?

@use234

As of junior year: 3.8 unweighted cumulative GPA, 4.0 weighted. Took 2 AP’s and 1 honors in junior year.

As of the first semester of senior year: 3.82 unweighted cumulative GPA, 4.12 weighted. I’m currently taking 4 AP’s and 1 honors. My first semester GPA was a 4.0 unweighted and 4.75 weighted.

SAT: 780 Math, 680 Reading/Writing
ACT: 32 Composite

My stats:

SAT: 1570 (790M, 780EBRW, 22 essay)
SAT II: Math 2 (800), Literature (780), Chemistry (750)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): N/A because my school’s grading system is weird but it’d probably be a 4.0 at another school
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 3% (school does not rank, percentile determined from honors society membership)
AP (place score in parenthesis): Calculus BC (5, AB subscore: 5), Chemistry (5) (my school doesn’t offer AP’s as such)

Astronomy Club (head); Varsity cross-country, Nordic, and track; Debate (Advanced level); Peer Tutor; GSA; Math Team; Newspaper (Online Editor); student leader

@use234 I honestly don’t think it’s going to be that straightforward with Reed. They’ve put a lot of effort into marketing themselves as a highly intellectual school, and that’s not something that’s based just on numbers. Also, as one of the Colleges That Change Lives, it pretty much has to a) be looking for unique and interesting individuals, and b) accept some students with lower stats because they demonstrate vitality in some form.

My biggest fear right now is that I’m boring.

@AWrinkleInTime : Just from reading that, I can tell you right now that you sure as hell don’t appear to be boring. Remember that every university is interested in different things @use234 (for example, my friend got into Columbia but got rejected from UNC Chapel Hill which are two totally different institutions!) I agree with the comment above that Reed is definitely interested in way more than numbers, and that’s arguably the most admirable feature about the college. They value intellectual vitality way more than stats.

If you’ve been doing what you’re passionate/interested in, Reed will pay attention to that and value it. They of course value grades and test scores but that is not where the emphasis should be.

Still nothing on Fedex :frowning:

My stats:
34 ACT: 35 E 33 M 35 R 33 S
3.8 UW 4.2 W (strong upward trend)
rank: 20/600
APs: Lang (5) AB Calc (5) Euro (5) APUSH (5) Chem (4) Psych (5) – in BC Calc, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Bio and IB Art
ECs: President and founder of two clubs: Art club and Girl Up club (funds go towards a united nations foundation to help girls in developing countries)
I am also part of a national charity organization and I did campaign volunteering for Bernie Sanders 2016 run (lol watch my AO be the one conservative at Reed)

my main worry is that I didn’t display enough interest since its so important for Reed, also my essays probably sucked…

also @AWrinkleInTime You don’t sound boring to me

GPA Weighted: 4.4

GPA Unweighted: 3.95

ACT:
English: 35
Math: 30
Reading: 32
Science: 30
Composite: 32

Senior Course Load:
AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP US Gov, British Lit, AP Physics C

AP Scores:
APUSH (5), AP English Lang (4), AP Psych (5), AP Bio (4)

Yeah… I don’t think we’re getting our decisions this week. When I mailed them (in the last week of January), they had told me that they’ll let us know on 31 Jan/ 1 Jan.

I go to a public high school in New Jersey

GPA: 3.85 weighted (my school only updates GPAs at the end of each year so that’s what it was at the end of junior year)
ACT: 30 composite (34 english, 35 reading, my science and math scores were horrendous so let’s not even talk about those here)
AP: English Lang+Comp, English Lit, French, Art History
Honors: French II, III, and IV, Global Perspectives (my school’s version of world history).
Rank: N/A, my school doesn’t report it except for valedictorian and saludictorian
ECs: GSA president for 2 years (member for 3), art (I’m very invested in photography, esp film, and have devoted a lot of time to it and have written artists statements), French Club 2 years, French Honors Society, work, French foreign exchange, Hampshire College pre-college student
Honors: Honor roll or high honor roll grades 10,11,12, French Honors Society member

As I’ve said before, Reed is a reach for me. I know my stats aren’t that great for Reed standards. But I wanted to try anyways! My personal essay was strong, but also a bit risky: it talks about the progress I’ve made in terms of mental health. I started my freshman year unable to attend school (I completed the work but at home-- this is why i don’t have any honors/awards/ECs for 9th grade), then went to a therapeutic school in 10th grade (no honors/AP classes), then finally came back to public school. The essay is in a positive tone, I made sure it wasn’t self pitying, but I know it’s still a risk. However, I felt it is a very important part of my life and also serves to explain the holes in my stats.

@grlpower @Soapy12 @abdelaney
You are all so amazing!!! Hopefully Reed can tel that.

@Zxcvbnm111 I guess we’ll find out.

Good luck everyone!

I had an issue with my application and I called and at the end of the conversation, they said we should hear next week!

they also told the guy who had the interview that we should receive the decisions this week.
