Is anyone transferring into Reed for the Fall '15 semester? I submitted my application and I figured we could start a thread.
I applied!
So excited!
I am a bit worried, though.
What are you worried about?
Are you going in as a sophomore or as a junior? What made you want to apply to Reed?
I’m also a bit worried, but whatever happens happens I guess.
@ambnyc
I suppose it’s just application anxiety. Even if had more time, I never would have felt confident in my applications.
I’m transferring as a sophomore. I’m not sure how many credits I have.
My professor told me I’d fit in, even before I knew Reed existed. I saw it as a unique environment propelled by academics and a common love for learning. And I know all colleges claim this facet, but I believed it when Reed said it. I love everything about the college - how the professors interact with students, how the chairs are arranged, how oddly individual everyone is.
There are more reasons, but if I write anymore, it will sound a bit melodramatic.
What about you? Why’d you choose to apply?

@CardinalZenn
That’s cool. I’m transferring in as a junior, hoping to attend for much the same reasons. My current college is pretty pro-corporate and homogeneous. People here join sororities and want to pursue jobs in marketing or whatever. I want to get a PhD. So, as self-aggrandizing as it sounds, my current place isn’t the most ‘intellectual’ environment, and I feel like Reed might be better for that.
@ambnyc
I absolutely agree with you on that: how Reed is the best preparation for PhD/Grad school. I want to go to Grad school for sure.
Do you have any idea when we find out decisions? Mid may, right?
You know, I love this forum, whenever I’m not feeling like studying I always come onto this site and read what other people have done and how much I’m lacking, then all the sudden finals week seems like a piece of cake. That joke about students only getting 2-3 hours of sleep during finals week isn’t actually a joke apparently. I wished I had studied more on my writing instead of focusing on my other classes. OK…Now I am motivated! Good luck on finals week for those of you in college!
I applied! I’m still waiting to hear back. If anyone hears back can they post it? I am anxious. I hope we will know before May 15th!
I applied as a junior for physics, but I’m not entirely sure I would prefer a LAC over a big state school…
Anyway, we will see. Good luck to everyone in this thread!
Does anyone know when decisions will be released?
Accepted today!!!
Good luck to everyone!
@CardinalZenn Congrats!
How did you know? Did your application status page change or did they send an email?
Just accepted as an in-coming sophomore with the following stats:
College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: 2.9-ish, with 4 APs, 5s on all.
SAT (1600): 1380
College Extracurriculars: Just one.
HS Activities: Very few, can’t even remember them…
Applied from a mid-ranked liberal arts college. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised, given my HS GPA, but I suppose it was the essays and recs that did it. Got notified with an E-mail - told me that my actual letter was coming in the mail.
Best of luck, everyone.
@eyo777 I was notified by an email. They said I’d be receiving an actual letter in the mail. My application portal hasn’t changed.
CardinalZenn and Guest15:
When did you guys submit your applications? I heard that they sometimes give you a response sooner when you submit them sooner so I’m wondering if that’s the reason you’ve gotten responses already…
I submitted mine like the last day safdjvn I am so nervous I will be checking my email so desperately from now on though!!!
Yeah, I am pretty sure that they get back to you sooner if you submit earlier, Lufthanzi5775.I think I submitted mine around a month before the deadline. Good luck! Last year they accepted around 30% transfer apps, so I think you should have a good shot if you wrote a nice essay.
@lufthanzi5775
I submitted my app the night it was due! I think that was March 1.
I’m not sure what the case is. My admissions letter was dated the 23 of April, which is really early compared to their prospective timeline. I was so excited, but it also means I may have accept Reed’s offer before hearing back from other colleges, which is great because I love Reed, but I still wanted some time to consider everything.
did they give you an earlier deadline for your decision to go to Reed than they would have if you got your acceptance in early/mid-May? I thought the deadline for responding was the same for everyone?
Also, do you think you probably had an outstanding application for them to accept you so quickly, since you didn’t submit the application early?
AAAAH I am just so nervous. I really want to call them and ask about how far they are in the process, but that would be really obnoxious of me I’m so worried now that I haven’t gotten a response yet because I’ve been rejected or something ;(
The deadline to reply for admissions offers is within two weeks of receiving an acceptance (for Reed, at least). For UCs, everyone’s deadline is June 1.
My letter was dated Aril 23, so I had to respond quickly. Fortunately, I talked with my advisor, and he granted me an extension. Though, I may not need it: Reed is looking like the best place!
As for my application, I don’t know if it was stellar.
Here are my stats:
HS GPA: 3.8
AP: Gov(5), Lit(4), Lang(4), Art(3), U.S. History(3), CalcAB(5)
My recommendations were really good, and one of them came from my editor (newspaper internship).
College GPA: 4.0
ACT: 33
Essays: Decent and very, very specific to Reed. I think they could tell that I was excited about Reed.
Don’t get too anxious. People on CC often concoct these inane theories going off of the slightest idiosyncrasies. Some colleges file through applications alphabetically, others first-come-first-serve.
I wouldn’t look too deep into it, and I wouldn’t contact them just yet. If they miss their prospective deadline of mid-May, then I would contact them.
Let me know if you have any questions! I would be glad to help; I know how stressful the process is.
