Reed Waitlist 2021

Did anyone else get waitlisted to Reed? It’s my top choice :’) I was actually kind of surprised, I thought it was a fit school for me. People who got in/waitlisted, what are your stats?

I got wait listed; it was also my top choice (if financial need was met).
My stats are 3.9 W, 4.8 UW, salutatorian, 1380 SAT and graduating with 89 college credits. My EC’s were mediocre, I guess that was my weak point.
Are you accepting the wait list position?

Yeah I accepted it. You are definitely more academically qualified! I have like a 4.1 W, probably around a 3.7 UW. 1320 SAT. 8 AP classes and have gotten three 4s and one 5. Also in student govt for 3 years, tennis for 2 years, won a national filmmaking contest for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. I probably didn’t challenge myself enough academically or had weak essays

@mrskite Yeah. I probably didn’t challenge myself enough academically or had weak essays  I’m really trying to get in still

I got in: full disclosure, my stats aren’t as high as you guys’s

3.56UW, 3.85W, but by upperclassmen GPA was 3.98UW with three APs senior year. 1530 new SAT, one sitting. I didn’t interview. My rec letters were presumably very good. I didn’t read them, but I know the teachers very well and I think they have good opinions of me. 3rd LOR was a national scouting person. I have lots of leadrship ECs, I’m president of a town youth board, and of a school club, and I have scouting.
My essays were good, but I think the Reed essay is the biggest thing they consider, mine probably read as a little eccentric. I have no idea how they make these decisions tbh.

If you’re waitlisted, you’re a fit. A friend’s D got off the waitlist; it happens. You could let your area dean know you want to be admitted.

I got waitlisted.

GPA: 3.9 UW/4.4 W
New SAT: 1510
Lots of ECs, and I was pretty proud of my essays. I guess one big weak point for me is that none of my EC’s are very focused, and even my common app essay was about a passion that wasn’t addressed in my EC’s. Perhaps I seemed like the epitome of “jack of many trades, but master of none”? I also need a LOT of financial aid.
My LORs probably weren’t great, either.

I’m not sure if I’m going to take a spot on the waitlist. I wanted to take a gap year, and Reed does not allow waitlist admits to defer admission. In addition, I live in New Jersey and have never visited Reed, and if I were admitted from the waitlist, I doubt I would be able to visit before I commit.

@lisun1998 not everyone can say they won a national film contest, congrats! is that what you plan on majoring in?
I think my essays must have not impressed them either; I wrote about teaching a class about how to do a spit-take (for the supplement), I guess it was too weird :))

are you sending in something else as a supplement? I’m not sure what they mean by writing an “essay” about how you still want to go to Reed.

@Fangirl1999 Reed usually tries to accept and enroll about 50% of students who can pay the full sticker price, so I would say chances are even slimmer than the 30% acceptance rate for people who need financial aid, unfortunately. I had the same issue as I live in North Carolina and haven’t been able to visit. Oh well :frowning:

@mrskite I’m sending them an essay including stuff I’ve accomplished since January and I’m also sending some art/photography (which I want to be my major, but ultimately I want to go into film!)

@Fangirl1999 you definitely seem qualified too!! Did you demonstrate interest? I’m thinking that may have been my flaw in the admissions process, but I didn’t realize how much I wanted to attend Reed until a couple months ago

@lisun1998 I’m not sure. There’s no way for me to visit Reed because I live so far away, but I’m on their mailing list and I did an alumni interview. I don’t know if that counts as demonstrated interest lol but most of the research I did was just talking to current students.

I recently was accepted to my top choice, so I will not be taking a spot on Reed’s waitlist. Best of luck to all of you!! I know you all are amazing and will be successful wherever you go

I was waitlisted too, after really great interaction w/ my regional dean and right after a trip that solidified it and another school as my top two choices. I didn’t realize Reed was need-aware, though, and even my regional dean mentioned my being in a “competitive income bracket”, so I’m sure that was a fair factor.

As far as stats, though,
3.76 UW / 4.02 W
33 ACT, no. 40/205 in class
Proud of my essays, less so of ECs

What extra materials are you guys planning on sending with your WL response?

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your income bracket? perhaps I’m in the same one lol

I have divorced parents and live with the one who’s self employed and makes about 10k a year (w/ 20k additional in child support). Most of my other colleges’ need-based aid have comped me all but 12-15k a year.

I’m also on the waitlist! I’ll be accepting my spot and trying to get in. It’s one of my top choices. I have a 3.87 UW and 4.0 W, 1420 SAT. I kind of thought Reed was a match, and apparently was at least partially right. For those of you accepting the spot on the waitlist, are you submitting all the possible supplementary materials/essays/letter?

My friend got waitlisted. 3.62 uw gpa. 28 ACT 1300 SAT 296.5 hours of community service, and she wrote and produced a musical for her senior project.

Has anybody been accepted off the waitlist yet?

No news for me yet  any word from anyone else?

No news for me either
