Reed Waitlist 2021

Nothing as well

Me neither

I am a happy recipient of a spot on Reed’s waitlist. Yeah!
Reed is not my first choice, but I was kind of assuming I would be accepted (never assume!!), so the waitlist came as a bit of a surprise. I am also dirt poor on paper, so I am willing agree that financial need must be a factor here.
Since so far I have one other acceptance with 100% aid I am not accepting the spot…

Whoa congrats!!! When did you get the call?

I just had a talk with the admissions and they said they haven’t pulled off anyone from the waitlist as of today.

@LeUnicorn Thanks for updating us!

Any new updates about the waitlist? @ilexflower @LeUnicorn Supplemental materials?

No new updates. I did send 2 essays and a sketch (it was about one of Reed’s traditions that I love) as supplemental material. Did you send any?

Has anyone submitted a deposit anywhere else yet?

I’ve put down a deposit at Mount Holyoke…great school but Reed is my top ultimate choice so fingers crossed! I sent in a bunch of supplementary materials: two essays, 2 letter of Recs, some other stuff I’ve done this semester that I thought would benefit my application and I compiled it all into a mini magazine because I’m the editor in chief of my high school’s magazine and I’ve been told Reed loves the stuff that shows your personality.

I submitted 2 essays and one LOC as my supplementary materials. Also yeah, I put down a deposit at UC San Diego which was also one of my very top schools. I feel like you guys definitely included more/better supplements now, though.

@coolbeans2021 even if you don’t get into Reed, MoHo is awesome! I’m going to Smith  I actually pulled my application because I want to take a gap year and Reed does not allow waitlist admits to defer.

I am not going to put my name on the waitlist. I like Reed, but I don’t think I would be offered financial aid, which is a no-go for me. I’m just crossing my fingers for the other decisions I haven’t gotten yet.
Good luck guys! A lot of colleges will pay attention to your level of interest, so essays, letters, art supplements… you know the drill.

International waitlisted. Does anyone know if Reed is going to look into its waitlist this year and roughly what number of openings there might be? Last year it brought people off by as early as the first week of May so no response from them so far is getting me alarmed.

Schools generally don’t know in advance how many; they must wait and see how many who (by now) have paid deposits back out (because they were admitted from wait lists of other schools). If a hooked applicant backs out, the school may want to replace from that category. If the “summer melt” is as expected, there may be no additional admits.

@vonlost I am sorry, but what exactly do you mean with “Summer Melt”?

Those who pay the deposit on May 1 but don’t show up in August, melting away in the summer heat (usually getting off another school’s waitlist).

Isn’t it weird that there’s no word about the waitlist yet?
Last year they already had people off the waitlist by the start of May.

Yes, so weird!

I’m guessing they’re not taking any waitlisted students this year. Sigh!

You can call the admissions office and ask if they know yet how many they’ll take. It may indeed end up being zero. :frowning:
