“Referred to Scholastic Review”
I applied to the University of Oregon for the fall 2012 semester and just checked my application status, which says “referred to scholastic review”. What does this mean?
I know it’s a longshot getting in the university of oregon for me because of my grades and sat scores, but i feel like my background story is just what they’re looking for.

I’ve also had to make up credits for certain classes, so i sent in a letter explaining the courses that im making up. I also attached proof of me being in the classes and had the vice principle sign it. In the letter i also stated due to the one million budget cut towards the oakland school district there has been many hardships. My school cut all college counselors therefore i was told faulty information.

I just hope I’m given a chance. Do you think i’ll be waitlisted?
fingers crossed

NervousMom, it’s very typical for students to hear from colleges at the end of March/early April, so I wouldn’t hold that timeline against UO… although I do understand that this waiting period is very difficult! I hope it’s resolved soon for you.

rentof2 is right, UO isn’t really late although the timelines for other schools seem to have been much faster this year based on the experience of my son and his friends. I’m sympathetic with the impatience. Waiting is excruciating. For what it’s worth, my son hasn’t heard from University of Colorado yet so there’s another one that seems to be on the later side. Fortunately Colorado didn’t make his short-list so he’s not concerned that he hasn’t heard, but it does still feel “late” given he’s heard from all of the other school to which he applied. Hang in there! We’re almost through it, parents of 2012 students.

U of O is dorm space challenged, so it could be an issue. I think they have some off campus housing they use when they need to expand dorm capacity, but maybe they’re managing enrollment numbers this year so it won’t come to that. You might try calling 1-800-Be-A-Duck which is the admission office. They seem pretty nice and might be able to answer questions about wait list implications.

NervousMom-the info page on wait lists mentions housing may not be offered due to timing. I am very disappointed in UO, I don’t know if the admissions office is more into calculating yield and playing with numbers or not. I wonder if the kids on the wait list have all shown huge interest (visit, early application, correspondence) so that they think, great we’ve got some live ones who will definitely say yes if the others we’ve already offered admission to decline. That way they make their numbers. Or are they really trying to be an ivy? Yet i see people noting high gpas and not admitted.

I always get ‘stock’ answers when i ask them things, and I do not get a warm, welcoming feeling from them at all. I have to ask, if it is this hard to get in for good students what will the time there be like? Will it be bashing your head into a brick wall ALL the time?

Even the Orientation page, they talk about getting your dates approved before you plan on coming-the way the wording is kind of negative in the tone. Sorry to be so negative myself, but the O is losing its luster, and my husband even went there!

I just checked back on my application status and now it says incomplete and “referred to secondary review” what does that mean?
They’ve also added recommendation 1 and personal statement to the things that I have to turn in

Oaklandgirl510, you should have received some information from us about those new items. If you haven’t, please contact Cheryl Kline at ckline@uoregon.edu and tell her about your application status and the missing items. She’ll be able to look up your app and tell you about what’s going on.

I understand people on the waitlist are nervous about housing. While I can’t guarantee anything to anyone individually, I would like to mention that the UO is building a new residence hall set to open this fall. So the situation is better than you may have heard about for entering classes in the past.

Hi! Congrats - he was offered admission too!! Still deciding, but I did want to know, what did housing say? Dorms still available, but will the kids coming off the wait list get the worst housing left?
