refrigerator/microwave rental

QPS is no longer supplying refrigerator/microwave units for rental by Mount Holyoke students. Rene Davis just emailed me that the college has no suggestions for another source for such rentals. I wish we had known that this rental source was being eliminated because we could have kept and stored the one DD used last year.

So--does anyone know of another option?

New England Student Services has them … you can look into it. Otherwise, just buy a little fridge, and separate small microwave. When I was at MHC, micros weren’t allowed but I needed one because there were several days a week I wasn’t on campus for dinner and got back at 11pm - needed soup, etc. So, I hid it behind a little curtain on a small cart type thing.

Last year, New England Student Services only wanted to do business with those students attending colleges with whom NESS had some sort of business arrangement. I don’t think Mount Holyoke was one of them, but it’s worth looking into.

When I rented a microfridge from NESS at Smith last year, I found their product to be only acceptable, not good or bad, though the service is pretty good (delivery to the dorm room is especially convenient). Caveat emptor, I say.

In case you have not seen the MHC warning (your parents will hear it during orientation day), do not rent or buy a large refrigerator. Only the very small cubical ones are allowed. The larger fridges use too much electicity, can cause fuses to blow, and thus can cause fires. Microwaves are in the dorm student kitchens.

Do you really want to clutter your small room with this junk when Blanchard is open late and serves good food that is cooked to order for you?

I couldn’t agree more, ConCerndDad! My daughter never asked for a fridge in her 3.5 years (studied abroad for a semester) at Mount Holyoke! We did offer, but she felt that more than enough food was available at meal times and off hours at Blanchard…and it made M & C’s more special ;)
