Refund of Audition Fees

Does anyone know if any schools offer refunds for audition fees? I know application fees are nonrefundable, but I paid for about 7 schools to audition and my d was accepted elsewhere (the schools are Ithaca, Carnegie, Penn State, CCM, Boston Conservatory, Hartt, and Emerson). I don't even remember which had separate audition fees or just one big application fee! I've left messages at all the schools, but of course, they're not open now. Any info would be appreciated!

I don't think CMU reimburses any fees. I've heard gripes about that situation for years. But you can try. Send a snail mail letter, followed by an e-mail but make sure you identify the point person at each school by phone. My experience with reimbursements has been that the requests have to be in writing. I would not be holding my breath for those checks though. I have a feeling that they are not reimbursable. I lost a small fortune this way as well, since my son did the same thing. He auditioned, however, so I sank a heck of a lot more money in the process, and I know I am not going to get a dime of any it back.

Jamimom is correct about CMU. The CMU application was the only other one my D had submitted (and audition booked) two years ago when she was admitted Early to Tisch. CMU had an earlier due date than anyone else. After she got into Tisch E.D., we wrote, emailed, and called the appropriate individuals at CMU to withdraw the application and cancel the audition. I followed up three times! I have yet to receive a reply let alone a refund! So I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. :)

Actually, I have never heard of getting the app fees back from colleges if you withdraw the application before any decision is made. The first thing those colleges do is snap up those checks, I know. It would be nice if I could get back all of the app fees I paid. The audition fees are a moot point since S already did audition, but I have the feeling that any of the fees are always prefaced with the words "non refundable". Let me know if you get any colleges willing to refund with audition or app fees.

Jamimom, you are correct. I think you must have misunderstood me about CMU. Our notification to them was to withdraw D's application, cancel the audition so that it was available for someone else, and to request a refund of the audition fee, not the application fee. I agree that it's doubtful that any school will refund audition fees. I don't really recall how many actually charge audition fees because of my D's situation with E.D. I know Tisch did not but CMU did. Any idea how many others charge?

It came to about $100 per school with $60 for the app and $40 for the audition fee. Some schools like Harrt did not charge the app fee if you applied on line. Juilliard wants $100 total, no break down between the the app and audition. We paid a small fortune. You were very fortunate with you daughter just to lose the one fee and end up with one audition. I must admit that I was feeling twinges of guilt, remorse, and had a case of the "shoulda, woulda , coulda" when S's friends got their NYU ED decisions. He was just that close to signing on the line for ED but couldn't do it. Did not want to give up his chances at CMU which was his true first choice but does not have early plans. On the other hand, the only two that S knows who were rejected ED to NYU specified CAP21 only, which he would have done. That was another reason for his hesitation; he wanted the option of looking at all of his choices of programs and colleges before having to settle for whatever NYU would stick him in. He preferred CAP21, but if he did not make it in a number of other schools and programs, he would have considered some of the other studios. He was in quite a quandry about all of this.

Out of 8 schools, only a couple have audition fees, and the only one who said they'd refund it was Carnegie Mellon ($45.00) I tell you, if my d doesn't like NYU, CM would be the first school she's auditioning for! What a class act!
