I didn't really check it before 70reve4rotag said that his/her decision was posted and I wouldn't have thought to check if that hadn't been posted here. CC actually proves itself useful for something other than a procrastination tool!

yes, it did say that about a week before they posted my decision. good luck!

tabbyzmom - My S is a freshman this year in the engineering college, and he is really loving it. I hope your S picks UF!

Rogracer, we are going to Gainesville on the 27th so S can visit again. My H, an engineer also, has never seen UF and looks forward to touring around. Who would you recommend they meet with? A very nice lady in admissions is arranging things for S, but suggestions never hurt if you "know" anyone in the eng dept. S is looking at electrical engineering btw. Two very nice undergraduates gave S and me a great tour last summer, but he needs to meet with an advisor of some sort this time. Thanks.

You might try calling the EE department chairman (Mark Law) at 352-392-0912. His office may be able to arrange a meeting with you and your S...or perhaps with an available faculty member.

My S, incidentally, is on the EE track as well. Good luck! Where else is your son considering?

Thanks for the info. A guy named Steve Perlman arranged the tour last summer. Good to have another name.
S is torn between UF and Tulane. We live in the metro N.O. area. Any feedback about your S's experiences thus far, etc. you can provide would be welcomed. We are trying very hard to not influence our S's final decision, but would like all the info we can get to provide him with.
I do have the personal message option if you prefer that.
Thanx, Tabbyzmom

Tulane is a good school. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I imagine it will come down to what's the best fit for your son's personality....and, of course, cost. UF is a great value....even for out-of-staters. My son has enjoyed going...so much so, that I can't get him to come home for the summer....he wants to take more classes!

Thanks rogracer. Please post anything else you may think of that I might like knowing about UF.

I don't put much stock in ratings...but UF's engineering programs are rated in general better than Tulane's. Another thing...if your son is at all like my son...he has a variety of interests. He is talking about multiple degrees...besides EE he is talking about Math and Business...(and then grad school, but that's another story...). Frankly...UF is cheap enough that I don't mind him pursuing those options. In fact, I encourage it. The undergraduate years are times to explore...and UF has lots of interesting programs. If he was at an expensive school, he wouldn't be given that kind of freedom...it would just be too expensive. So, for my son, I think UF is going to work out great. And it's programs are respected enough that he won't have any trouble getting into top-flight graduate programs assuming he does well. But he may just stay at UF, he likes it that well.

Thanks again. We are looking forward to our visit in a few weeks. My S will stay in Hume dorm overnight, then he and my H will see EE dept, music dept (to see about playing in an ensemble), Wesley Foundation, and whatever else.

I recieved my big envelope today and I got into the Honors Program. Anyone else in Honors?

rooney, were you automatically accepted to honors, or did you get an application for the honors program? if you were automatically accepted, are you a national merit scholar? congrats!!

Congrats Rooney, my S is going to be in honors also.

It wasn't an application, it was more of a "this is your invitation to join the honors program". I wasn't a National Merit Scholar, but I was a Commended Student. So if I end up going to Florida, I'll definitely be doing the Honors Program.

Yes, Congrats! My son and niece are both going to be in honors and live in Hume!

I think everyone had to "apply" to the honors college. I'm a NMF and still had to...

so you were accepted to UF and then had to do a separate app for honors?

if you're talking to me, then my answer is yes. I, and everyone I've talked to, was accepted into UF and invited to apply to the honors college by going to the website and filling out the app, printing it out, and sending it in.

Yes, there is a separate application for honors. If you are invited to apply, you download the app on Adobe, fill it out and send it in. There are a couple of essays and just the regular app question stuff.

they actually just sent out emails today to the first batch of applicants saying they're accepted to the honors program.
