Reg Decision II

Yes, we got the email, S is officially in! After a scare!! They sent the wrong email first! I called and he had not been coded as a NMF. I'm glad I called!! Whew, we're officially done!!! The college hunt is over!!!!!

congratulations! i would have freaked out if that had happened to me

just heard from my sister in gainesville - there was an article on the frontpage of the Gainesville Sun about UF having a lower number of applications this year and the reasons why - hurrincanes and accepting only online apps - anyway it also said that the reg decision II letters would go out by 3/25/05. I am assuming that their "check status" website which has been down since last thursday will hopefully show a "congratulations...." sentence
on that day also.

good luck to us all.

Just got accepted to class of '09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw my decision online.

My stats are:
African American Male
sat: 1300
act: 28
GPA uw: 3.2 w: 3.5
Kansas high school

part time job for 1.5 yrs.
4 year baseball player
2 year letterman
minimal community service

Congrats Jarrell!! That's great!!

Got in today. Yessssss.

Hey guys, I'm new the the boards. I was accepted to UF a few weeks ago. Actually they called to ask if I was planning on attending before I knew I was accepted. It was weird. I don't really know if I'll be going there... It would be cheaper for me to go to UA (and they have amazing brand new dorms for the Honors Program). But I was born in Gainesville... so in a way it would be nice to go back (though I only lived there a year.)

My stats:

SAT I: 1230
ACT: 29
SAT II Writing: 720
GPA UW: 4.0
GPA W: 4.125 (hah, but according to my transcript it is a 6.0... my school is so ridiculous. I asked them to fix it 3 times... now it's an 8.0. Gee, I'm just brilliant, eh?)

So what's the housing like at UF?
Thanks guys :)
Elizabeth

The Honors Dorm at UF is also new and very nice. My S says the rooms are very roomy and clean (including the bathrooms). I only saw the other dorms from the outside so I don't know about them. Good luck with your decision and congratulations on your acceptance!

Irishred, as ag said, the Honors Dorm (Hume Hall) is probably the nicest (definitely the newest - opened in '02) dorm on campus, however, only honors students are allowed to live there and you must have a 1380 SAT or 32 ACT to qualify. I've lived in one other dorm at the school - Beaty Towers - which are suite-style rooms 2 bedrooms (2 people in each) with a kitchen/common area. They're pretty decent for freshman dorms. There are also a few apartment-style options, but they're a bit farther from the center of campus. Most dorms are standard doubles (you can sometimes get a single if you request it and have a good priority housing date)...pretty much classic dorm-style, but what's nice about them is that they're really close to the center of campus, which is great since the size of UF can be a bit overwhelming. Most of the standard double dorms were built in the 50s and 60s, but have been renovated since. Nothing special, but not nearly as bad as some state schools (cough FSU cough). Not everyone lives on campus freshman year, and the majority of students move to off-campus housing after the first year (though it is available, by lottery, for sophomores and up...actually, housing is never guarunteed, but as long as you get your housing deposit in early enough, you should be fine). Apartments in Gainesville are generally cheaper than living in the dorms, and the bus system on campus and around Gainesville is very efficient. Parking on campus can be an issue, and I can tell you more about that if you really want to know...
Anyway, check out <a href="http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/%5B/url%5D">http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/</a> for general housing info or <a href="http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/Facilities_singles.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/Facilities_singles.htm</a> for info about specific dorms.

Oh, and I wouldn't say the rooms in Hume are "very nice" or "very roomy," but they're not bad. The best thing about them is that every 2 doubles is connected by a bathroom w/ toilet and shower, or if you get a single, you have your own bathroom.

not to disappoint anyone but apparently there was a problem with the UF computer system today and if you just saw online today that you got in then you might not have

Thanks guys. Well, so much for the honors program I suppose. Can you join the honors program later (like as a sophomore) if you have a certain GPA? Blah... UA's H.P. was a lot easier to get into (28 ACT)... but I really don't think I want to go there. I've wanted to go out of state for a really long time. OH the fun of decision making!

Anyway, can you tell me a little bit about the benefits of the honor's program? Some of the school's I've looked at are horrible, and others I definitely would not attend if not in the honor's program. I'm just thinking I might be stuck with a lot of huge 101 classes...

raggidyanne: Where'd you hear that?

irishred, go to
<a href="http://www.honors.ufl.edu/aboutus.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.honors.ufl.edu/aboutus.html</a></p>

my status changed on the website form congradulations to we have received your application so i called admissions and that is what they told me

Gosh, that is horrible! How depressing. Like I said earlier, my S originally got an email saying he wasn't in honors, after he had been told he would be. I called and they had him coded wrong. They immediately sent a new "Congratulation" email, but we had the old stomach in the throat syndrome for about an hour. Raggidyanne, good luck!! I hope you get a "congratulations" soon!

"Thanks guys. Well, so much for the honors program I suppose. Can you join the honors program later (like as a sophomore) if you have a certain GPA?"

The Honors Site said this:
"If you do not meet the requirements to join the Honors Program as an incoming freshman, you may still apply to join the program at the end of Fall Semester by way of lateral admission. You must begin taking classes in either Summer B or Fall Semester in order to be eligible for lateral admission (minimum GPA 3.5 with at least 12 credits during Fall Semester required). In the past most successfully admitted students have applied with GPA's well above the minimum of 3.5, and they have also been actively involved in the UF community via extracurricular activities and organizations."

Thanks Tabbyzmom and Gatorhopeful11. That's good news about the honors program... making my decision a little harder... or easier. Who knows?

I got rejected - but UIUC accepted me just two days ago.

sorry about UF tenniscraze, my d is still waiting for her reply did you find out by mail or online?
