Regarding Barron's 2400

This book is highly recommended among fellow CC posters. What sections specifically are the most helpful in order to improve score?

i just found some practice problems useful.

what sections are the most helpful?

the critical reading seems helpful...but try the practise exercices in the blue book or others since they are extremely hard on the 2400. And the math problems are good since it exposes you to the harder questions that sometimes do appear on the SAT.For math, if your planning to start prep. from the scratch...use barrons 'how to ...SAT' since it is comprehensive.

I found the CR strategies useful, but honestly, they could have condensed it all into half of a page.

what about the kaplan 2400? I have that one and it has been helpful, is the Barrons that much better?

godfather, could you summarize barrons 2400 CR in half a page??

kaplan 2400 is much better than barron's in my opinion. Try that one, for a change.

Barron's 2400 CR
- memorise high level vocab
- elimination method
- positive or negative words
- reading passage in chunks
- jotting down notes beside the passage as you read

those are basically the important CR strategies from the book

thank you.

I just bought the Barron's 2400 book, and it's pretty awesome (hard too!)
From past experiences, Kaplan was quite a disappointment for me.

has anyone else tried both the kaplan and barron's and can comment?

I don't really see how much different Kaplan's 2400 book and their 2007 regular book can be. Reading some book won't help you, but implementing its strategies into numerous practice tests that you take and analyzing your mistakes, figuring out why you got it wrong and how you can fix it is the best way to get a 2400.

Also, what is the point of Kaplan's course? From what I've heard, they just read out of their textbook basically. What is it, $5000 for a tutor and $1200 for the class?

I took the Kaplan course, and I'd have to say it was the biggest waste of money.

Unless you're clueless about the SAT, I don't think anybody should take it.
And the lesson book is a waste of trees. Half of the pages in the lesson book are just blank space, and the whole thing could've been condensed in 100 pages, but instead its 500 pages to give the impression that the class is worth your money.

what about a PR or kaplan online course? any experiences??

Is buying the CD-rom with the book helpful?

The book was ok, but honestly, not worth the money (or the time). You can get pretty much the same stuff (and quicker too) if you just read through RR/Maximum/Gruber's
