Hi all,

Most of you posting right now aren't "my" kids since UVa doesn't have an early process, but I've seen so much worry about early action/decision deadlines in the last 24 hours that I'm compelled to write this.

I have never worked at a school that penalized students for slightly late applications. Similarly, I have never worked at a school that penalized students for late items sent by a teacher or counselor. Deadlines are important, but most schools leave a good amount of wiggle room in their systems to accommodate a variety of situations.

In addition, please don't worry about the "download date" on Common App. That's the date your file was transferred to the college. Many school set up automated delivery in the middle of the night, so the date on that line might be different from your submit date.

Deadlines are important and there's a point when it's too late to submit, but that time does not come at 12:01 AM on deadline night. I hope you'll vow to submit your regular applications a little early so you aren't facing the same scramble that you may have last night.

Good luck!

P.S. Just to put it out there, many students have posted that Common App has a note about symbols not matching the true status of the application. The text is correct. The symbol may be incorrect. Always submit a help ticket before posting about a problem on College Confidential. Common App needs to know about glitches in their system.
