Regarding optional/supplemental teacher recommendations

So I have a non-teacher person who I know will write me a super-awesome supplemental letter of recommendation. However, none of the Stanford mailing labels correspond to supplemental letters of recommendation. Should I just address a 9x12 envelope to Stanford without using a mailing label? Or should I use one of the Teacher Evaluation mailing labels, thereby having two envelopes labeled "Teacher Evaluation Form (1)"?

Unrelatedly, why does Stanford insist upon 9x12 envelopes? Is unfolding tri-folded papers truly such an arduous task that it reduces the quality of life of their admissions counselors?

I’m wondering about this too. Does the optional rec have to be in a 9x12 envelope?

The Admissions Office scans all documents and then puts them in files. They don’t want to handle folded papers. It is nothing more than that. I am sure they get folded documents and just deal with it.

Anarch, when you have one or two people (clerical help) handling over 100,000 documents per year, it definitely is an arduous task. They want to put a flat paper on a scanner and move on to the next paper. Try doing this 100,000+ times with folded papers.

Fair enough, I suppose. I didn’t really think about the volume of documents they’re receiving.

To reiterate/bump my original question, does anybody know the best way to label/address optional recommendation letters?

I called the admissions office yesterday and was told to adress an envelope REA/optional recomendation to the admissions office. REA if you are applying SCEA, but if you’re applying regular just label the envelope optional recomendation

Thank you so very much.

What does REA stand for?

Restricted early action.

oh duh, thanks.
