Well, the residence hall contract arrived today and I can't really say Im too plased with the room. I was looking for any room (single, double, triple) in South Quad since I thought it was part of the specialty for being in the honors program.... Apparently, I was wrong adn you can be put into other halls despite being a part of honors.

Anyways, anybody know the qualities of Couzens Hall? I got a large triple.

Also, if I was to start a room swap with somebody, how would this work? If I signed and handed in my contract, won't I be ineligible to get a new room? ..or did the college mean that you sign your contract and switch rooms AFTER they have recieved your contract? Moreover, do you have to arrive to the campus to finish any paperworks in order to successfully switch rooms (I live in New York)?

You have to request honors housing...it is guaranteed for honors students, but it isn't automatic. You might try to get in touch w/ honors to see what can be done...but don't sign your contract until its all sorted out...once you sign the contract, you are stuck (i.e you have to get a rom swap etc.)

Ok, thanks for the information. I KNOW I requested honors housing. I like quadruple checked. I will get in touch with them and try to win my room despite their statement that the contracty cannot be altered....

I'm in the same situation as chickenlord. I'm in honors and was really ****ed to find that they stuck me in Fletcher.
KB, what do you think the chance is that I'll get in SQ where I should be?

Don't worry about the chances; I doubt he can tell you much since not many people have been under similar circumtances. Just be an exceptional debator and I will trust that an institution such as Michigan will give us what we deserve.

Anyways, Independence Day today so I left them a message.

P.S. Could anybody inform me on the goods and bads of Couzens Hall?

It's quite suspicious... I got the same result. They made a mistake and are not willing to fix it, making up a pity excuse in the place of the mistake imo. South Quad offers 1220 rooms. It sounds quite ridiculous for me to think that they can't fit 550-ish people in there, especially since some choose other halls and others live off campus. This si quite distressing, as the south quad residence hall was basically the only big thing I saw from being part of Honors. Previously, they made it sound like we were promised a room in South Quad if in Honors. This is retarded: I ould really care less about the other small benefits. I didn't expect at all to be treated like some out of the ordinary sudent at mich for being in honors, but I at least wanted to reap the benefits they listed. Not only that, but they didn't even provide me with anything CLOSE to what I applied for (I applied early too).

Couzens Hall? Triple? I don't see that anywhere in my application.
If it wasn't for PA to Ross, Berk/Duke>>>>Mich imo right now.

My friend who is a sophomore at U-M said that South Quad was full for him when he tried to get a spot in there for the upcoming school year. I think this is just a really cramped year in housing. Second of all, if you applied for South Quad then that means your number one neighborhood was Central/Hill which is certainly where Couzens is located. I know people that sent their housing MUCH earlier than you if you are just now recieving it and they were placed on North Campus, so you should feel lucky that you got Central/Hill. And I'm sorry that you didn't get housing where you wanted, but where you live freshman year isn't going to be that big of a deal in your overall Michigan experience so I'd hold off on those bad feelings for the university.

South Quad has a fixed number of rooms reserved for Honors students. Generally, they have the first 4 floors of the East half and the 3rd and 4th floors of the West half. This not only includes incoming freshmen, but also sophomores/juniors who want to return to Honors housing. Many Honors students opt to return to South Quad, but many of them get rooms in the non-honors portions of South Quad. They've been pushing capacity for a while, starting to turn some doubles into economy triples to fit everybody in, but it seems they've finally gone over.

My son is also in honors - we were never guaranteed a spot in honors housing, what we were told is there is room for ~75% of the honors kids there. He also didn't get into South.

I will have even less chance next year as I am going to be in Ross (preferred admit and I know Im already going to leave the damn LSA). I only had this year to experience Honors to its full extent. The letter they sent always aid that we could get the rooms if we chose to. Its ridiculous that they would not even warn us and leave us under an illusion. Also, South Quad seems to offer 30 pct Honors. Why arent the other honors able to occupy the other 850+ rooms? If they promised us that special housing is one fo the benefits and we had priority, why didn't we get the rooms? IF we didn't have priority, why did they even list that as a benefit? This is completely frustrating.

P.S. I scanned every material regarding Honors. Where was this ~75% information from?

Returning students have top priority on housing, and they fill up the other 850+ rooms, and would fill up the rest if there weren't some set aside for Honors program. You only get priority over the rest of the freshmen class.

I see.... The information they sent always made it seem like we were going to get it if we chose to. Had they given mor warning, many would have applied like the first day.

I think it's kinda of like the thread about freshmen being able to get housing on campus. Yes, it's usually a sure thing, but sometimes things just can't work out. Usually something like 75% of Honors students opt for Honors housing, but there's no reason why it couldn't have jumped up to 85% this year. Or maybe more returning Honors students than usual opted to return to Honors housing. Or maybe a higher than normal amount of students were accepted into the Honors programs this year. Since returning students choose rooms in March/April, they have to decide how many rooms to set aside for Honors well before the relevant information for the next year has been decided yet.

I highly doubt it since these contract lasts for both semesters. If people chose to pick SQ for first semester, they would most likely follow up their plans second semester.

Im just irritated that the Univ. Housing didn't offer me anythign along my application. With a triple, I won't even be able to perform a room swap. They suggested the waitlist, but that basically means I won't get it. I mean, every honors student who arent pleased with their assignment are probably going to sign up for the list for like 2 rooms. Seriously, do they actually think that's something realistic of an option for me to switch room? This is so retarded, but I guess I will move on.
