Regarding SAT Scores

I took the SAT last year in May on a whim, and did pretty terribly.

My ACT scores are much higher, and it's clear that I've focused mainly on the ACT on my application. If I send my SAT scores, will they understand and not factor them into the decision? Or should I not send them (although I think that's not allowed) and hope they won't notice?

Thanks!

Yes they will.

My understanding is you can send either the SAT scores with subject tests or the ACT. To be sure you should call the admissions office. D sent only her ACT scores when she applied.

Here is an excerpt from the “How to apply” section of Pomona’s website:

Entrance Examination Results
The College Board SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests of your choosing or the American College Testing (ACT) Assessment are required. All examination scores must be sent to Pomona College directly from the testing agency.

It does use the word “or” in the verbiage.

^Yes, only the ACT is necessary. I’m a freshman and I did not send in my SAT scores.

If you’ve retaken subject tests do you have to send all of them or can you just send your highest?

Actually they want to see everything. I emailed admissions and this is what they said:

"Thank you for your email and interest in Pomona College! Pomona requires applicants to submit their entire testing history from every test date – including the SAT, SAT II Subject Tests and the ACT. Our admissions requirements state that students can take either the SAT with two SAT II Subject Tests or the ACT, but in the event that students take all three exams or any combination of exams we ask that they submit the scores from every standardized test that they have taken. "

So they want everything. I’m a bit worried too. My first SAT was decent, 2150. My ACT was really good with a 34. But I took the SAT again and scored 100 lower. Plus my SAT II’s are horrid, with percentages in 50-70%.

50-70% isn’t really that bad. I got a 780 on chemistry and it was only the 86th percentile. Everyone taking the SAT IIs are, typically, people applying to prestigious universities. The SAT on the other hand, basically everyone takes. If you’re in the 50th-70th percentile, while it won’t get you in (then again, SATs can’t guarantee anyone into a school like Pomona) but they can’t keep you out either. Basically: chillax.

Thanks Daiviko! My Lit one wasn’t bad, 700 at 82%, Math Level 2 740 at 72%, and finally US History at 670 at 67%, blehhh. So I guess I was wrong with my percentages.

Makes me feel better about it all actually, I forgot my Lit one was that high.
