I initially applied to rutgers saying that I was going to commute, but this has changed.
I now plan on dorming, and am in the process of filing out the housing app.

That being said, I saw my initial financial aid offer online, and the total of loans/grants/scholarships added up to around 12700, which covers just the tuition.

Is the initial financial aid offer only for tuition? Or was it supposed to add up to the 23,000 or so which includes room and board and everything?

When I go to check my initial offer, it says my RUID is not found in the database, yet I was accepted to all 3 schools and I am eligible to enroll. Is this typical, or does it mean I’m not even being considered for aid?

Additionally, though it may or may not matter, I applied as a transfer student; not a freshman coming from high school. Not all too sure if the procedure is different.

After being told by Rutgers staff the same thing as the previous post…“There isn’t an offer ready yet.” “You just need to wait longer.” “It takes a while to update.” Even though I sent my FAFSA in early January.

I called again today to find out what was going on.

Turns out, though the only required document was the FAFSA and I did it as early as possible, they wanted a copy of my SSN and the card again, for some reason…supposedly to verify my information.

So in conclusion, I never knew they needed it and nothing indicated this, they never told me, and after months of being misled I finally found out. I was told that this will “not” affect how much I receive, but I find that hard to believe unless they looked at me already and set an amount aside, pending my card…particularly considering a large amount of money seems like it’s already been handed out. So I suppose we’ll see.

In conclusion, if you can’t see an initial offer or you’re having trouble, call them and double check. Apparently, you may need to send them something not even mentioned as a “required document.”

I feel like I’m going to get screwed out of money I could use, especially since I’ve great credentials, but we’ll see in the coming week if they cleaned up their act and changed anything.

-HVairline, are you sure it says you’re not in their database (SSN or RUID), or just that no offer is available for viewing yet?

I got a postcard, and I checked online and all it said on my initial offer was the Federal PLUS loan thing…it didn’t show anything else…is that normal?
