I posted this in the Georgia Tech forums, though I thought I'd ask here as well:

Hello. As a Georgia high school student, I need to take at least two consecutive language courses to get into a Georgia college. I am aiming for Georgia Tech. I took French 1 in middle school and I'm taking French 2 right now as a freshman, though I'm not doing as well as I'd like. I obtained an 83 last semester and it's not honors French (which sucks, since my friend that is is actually behind our class in the curriculum). So, should I take French 3, even it's not really required? I don't want the class to be dragging down my GPA in the long run, because I'm pretty sure I won't be getting into honors French next year and it'll just be another low B grade for both semesters.

I'm from GA and i didn't take foreign language my freshman and it now looks like my sophmore year either..I'm trying to get atleast 4 French classes because Harvard recommends it. In other words i have the same question

Yeah, I'm not really aiming for any of those Ivy League schools. I want to go to Georgia Tech to major in Computer Science.

Does that French I middle school class show up on your transcript? If not, you should probably go ahead and take French III. And if you really don't want to do that, you could always explain that you have mastered two years of French in the Additional Info part of your application.

Yeah, the French 1 I took will be in my transcript. However, I really just have no desire to take another dreadful year of French... It's only been two days into the semester, and I feel like I can't get through these months either.

For my 2012 class, we're not required to take two consecutive years of a foreign language to graduate, though most colleges from what I know require at least two years. I'm just wondering if I'll need a third year if I want to go to a school like Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech's a pretty good school, but I checked their College Board site and they only require two years. :]

Well, according to this, two years are required by Georgia Tech, which I knew. Though, nothing about a third year is anywhere.

Georgia Institute of Technology - Freshman

I'm not sure what to do. If my teacher decides to place me in honors French next year, I'll probably take it. If not... I'm not sure.

I also have another question regarding my first semester grades. I know one semester doesn't mean much, though since they're my first grades, I'd like to know if I'm on the right track:

Health: 97
IT Foundations: 94
Honors Lit.: 92
Honors Bio: 87
French 2: 83
Honors Math: 82

EDIT: Thanks rachael525, though I'm still wondering if just quitting on my third year would seem bad, especially since I have another two years ahead of me (I plan on doing joint enrollment in my senior year).

sorry, bumping again

I have this exact same question. I talked to my guidance counselor and she said to stick it out for my junior year and then if I still want to drop it, then I can choose to not take it senior year. Don't know if that helps but..

So, anybody else know?
