I happen to be active in RCSA which I have really enjoyed. It's the club you are automatically in for receiving the scholarship. I've dined with professors, gone on trips, and other different activities. There are also networking opportunities to take advantage of.

You do not get priority registration. Although, I have been quite lucky to have gotten off of every waitlist I have been on, but I know that is not always the case.

Also, although I only received the basic award for the scholarship because I have no financial need, my financial aid package and loans was put together right away. Something my parents appreciated more than I did...

I received mails and such from UC-Irvine about the Regents' Scholarship in February, and I got in there with the scholarship. I didn't receive anything from UCLA, and I got in there without the Regents'. I haven't heard anything yet from UCSD nor Berkeley, so am is it safe to say that I don't have a chance at Regent's for either campus?

My 'stats' (hate that word, btw) are:
SAT I: 2310
SAT IIs: 790/760
GPA: (unweighted) 3.98
Essays: Put a lot of energy and thought into them (and I love writing).
ECs: Founder of 3 clubs, vice-president of 2, tutored Chem/English/Math at school, worked with a children's hospital for almost a year, have published articles, worked full-time for a year at a clinic to help ends meet while family went through extremely tough time economically, etc.

You should have gotten notification by mail (physical and email) by now if you're a RC candidate.

For berkeley yes you shouldve been notified by now.
For UCSD, I'm not sure if they send out any kind of pre-notification. They tell you on the actual admission if you recieved any scholarship.

eh, if it makes you feel any better, I got regents' from Berkeley, but was not even invited for Irvine's...

did you apply for the Alumni Scholarship? I have several friends who have amazing "stats" who were not invited for any regents' but applied for and got the Alumni Scholarship, which has many perks as well.

Gemini...Irvine's Regents has no interview. It's just sent with the admissions, so you aren't even technically invited to anything. The difference is that Irvine's Regents is based solely on stats, and no interview.

You should be thankful you got Regents from Berkeley. I got Regents from Irvine, and not Berkeley...and I'm at Berkeley.

My sister received Regents' scholarship for UCDavis 2 days ago in the mail on the same day that the acceptances came out.

Um, need, I'm most definitely thankful I got Regents at Berkeley. If you want to be technical - it is an invitation to come to the university as a Regents' Scholar...=P...and I was actually aware there was no interview, UCLA is the one process that I'm not fully familiar with of the UC's I applied to. I'm very active in the RCSA on campus, something that I owe exclusively to this scholarship.

The Alumni Scholarship can be applied for every year you are at CAL, which makes it possible to get those perks despite not receiving it straight out of high school. So the Regents' Scholarship is not absolutely the end all to be all.

For the UCLA Regent's, you submit an essay on a class you would want to take at UCLA, along with two rec letters.
For Berkeley: I've been hearing that nearly all of the candidates get offered the scholarship. True?

And geminihop, did you host at OHP?

Not quite true. I was talking to a professor who used to conduct interviews for the scholarship today and he confirmed what I had thought: it is offered to around half of those interviewed. Approx. 200-300 enroll each year, so at least twice that must have been offered the scholarship. This year 1000 were interviewed in comparison to past years that had been fairly level at 800-ish.

I did host OHP =), but only one night. I will be hosting again in April for Cal Day. Did you come to OHP, quirkily? I came to mingle during Zachary's pizza-ness some of the nights I did not host since I know the OHP committee pretty well.

Yeah, I stayed last night, Unit 3 Priestley. It was all so much fun, even though I live in the area (I actually go to Berkeley High).

I'm anxious to see if I got the scholarship! Ah!

Gemini...I never realized you could apply for the Alumni's scholarship annually. Do a lot of people not realize this or what?

Need, I would guess that a lot of people just don't realize this.

I have to reapply each year. Although there is some preference given to reapplying scholars in the process itself, there is no guarantee of receiving the scholarship. The deadline for current Berkeley students is June 30th, while the deadline for incoming students has passed.
