Regents at Berkeley!!

wow! I checked my email with no idea that they sent out emails so it came as a total surprise!

Who has any statistics? Eg, # of students invited vs # of applicants, % who receive Regents? Congrats to everyone who got it!

~1000 invited, ~48,400 applicants, ~500 receive the scholarship.

Got an email today! [is excited].

First thing I notice when I follow their link:

"Step One: Identify your field of interest
To assist us in matching you with an interviewer who shares your interests, please check up to three of the following interest areas. You may later change your selection if your search produces no available interview times or if the interview times offered are impossible for you.

Faculty interview times are based on available faculty interviewers in specific departments. In order to be interviewed you may need to select an academic area that is outside of your area of interest.
Biological Sciences
Chemsitry[sic] <<< This accidental typo amused me for a while ^_^|||
Environmental Design
Engineering
Humanities
Physical Sciences
Natural Resources
Social Sciences
Undergrad & Interdisciplinary Studies"

-edit- Would it be safe to say that candidates have been accepted already?

I just got it today :) In the mail and through email...on the same day

got it today! hella excited!

Got mine today!! I'm so excited, esp because it came together with my USC mail saying that i DIDNT get the scholarship from there.

AHH!

Does the invitation for Regent Scholarship interview mean that we're in??

My sister got the Regents invitation through mail! I guess it runs in the family.;)

just got it punanies!!! yeaaaa
o yea,.....runs in my family too ;)

Yeah, it means you're in.

Congrats to all. I can't tell you how many of my Regents/Chancellors' friends from back when now have PhDs, etc. It's an extremely elite group.

^^pick anybody who is "regents level" but did NOT get it and you could say the same thing.

^^ exactly.

here's a copy of the email

i'm not really well-informed when it comes to things like those so i would appreciate it if someone would enlighten me what this means for me.

if anyone also care to help me, what are the chances? i dont really have a stellar SAT score (1960), a stellar class rank (rank 12) but i do have good subject scores (750+ on both math ii, chem, and US H)

thank you

edit: i forgot to say that i received both this email and the snail mail regarding the regent scholarship on feb 14.

When I went to Cal, no one had their GPA and SAT score tattooed onto their shoulder. I have no idea what other kids were doing and no way of tracking their progress. What I do know, is that back then, as I've posted before, the Regents and Chancellor's Scholars tended to live in Clark Kerr. And, looking back, it's surprising to me just how many of them went on to get PhDs.

My main point was to congratulate those who have been offered interviews. This is probably the happiest day of their lives, for many of them, since it's the day they found out they got into Cal. I know that was one of the happiest days of my life.

In my opinion, every one who gets into Berkeley is very special.
Regent scholars must be super special as it is the cream of the crop.
It is not just scores GPA/SAT etc. The academic work load, 50+ a-g courses, leadership, and community service must be accounted for when selecting the top 0.4% (200 out of 48,000 applicants).

I wonder how many of the presidential candidates form CA are candidates for Berkeley regent's.

I qualify for instate but I'm attending a high school outside the US. I received an invitation to schedule an interview for Regents.

But according to RSC prospective scholar selection, under the final review section, candidates from OOS high schools don't have to attend an interview and are evaluated based on information already submitted.

Did Berkeley accidentally invite me for an interview or something? Are there any other OOS students out there who have received an invite for an interview?

If you don't get one, does that mean you will be rejected? :[

^^ of course not. They accept many more than a 1000 students. =p

^^ hahahahaha. Then about more than 1/2 the people accepted shouldn't have been, like me. NOOOOOOO, not getting it is NOT a rejection.

i'm so proud of my friends who got this :D
