Regents at Berkeley!!

Not a Cal-specific thing. Presidential Scholar semifinalists are picked based on SAT scores, then they have to write a bunch of essays and submit recommendations and things to get that distinction. Only two are picked per state, and while (I think) there aren't any huge benefits, it's fairly prestigious.

Presidential Scholars

I would like to echo stupidkid's question: do any OOSers get regents?

I don't know much about this whole process, but I'm guessing that a handful to none of the OOS applicants get regents. It would make sense for UC schools to favor California residents. Hopefully, they'll give out SOME scholarships to OOSers, though.

Yes, OOSers do get Regents. Although I've never been involved in the admissions process (unlike some other posters here), I'm a RC scholar, and I've know a fair number of OOSers. (I'm about as OOS as possible (international)) It's my (possibly flawed) understanding that in-state status does not unduly prejudice the Regents process.

This forum makes me wanna cut myself. Haha.

Hmmm my friend just told me he got in. Apparently he found out at the interview.

okay so I had my interview yesterday and the told us we were officially accepted! yayyyy

wait.. so k_twin:
when did you find out about the Regents since you were international-- April? (that's what it says on their website)
Or, did you get asked to interview? (strange but possible)

I wasn't asked to interview, no. I found out at exactly the same time that I received my admissions decision (on the same screen in myBerkeleyApp in fact). V. pleasant surprise (particularly since I didn't even know that the scholarship existed) :)

if you got the regent's notification for interview, then yes, you are accepted to uc berkeley.
2,000 are given notice and 500 will pass interview to get the scholarship

if you're coming to berkeley to interview, i'll be there to answer questions (most of the day).

hopefully i can help you out if you have questions on what to prepare/bring
aim: wynnechyou

I'd assume that it's way too late to receive the scholarship. There isn't any way that some applicants are chosen without an interview is there?

Honestly I'm really depressed about not even getting to the interview stage, and now I'm incredibly worried about my actual admission status at Berkeley. Is this a sign of rejection?

I'm also curious as to what the stats are of people who got an interview/scholarship. I had thought my stats (see below) would at least get me an interview. Appears I was wrong.

My stats:
4.6 weighted GPA
class rank: 2
2250 SAT score (only took it once)
800 and 760 SAT 2 scores
National Merit Finalist
Dedicated member of school band, received awards at jazz festivals.
President of 2 clubs, Vice president of one.
Member of Varsity Tennis Team

I would really appreciate it if anyone who was invited to interview could post their stats.

I believe it's the top 1000, and 500 will actually get it.

Jeez JP_Omnipotence... you really deserved an interview (unless your essays were terrible, which I highly doubt....). I have similar stats but I'm OOS so I guess it wouldn't make much sense for me to interview, although idk for sure. Anyway, best of luck to you-- hope we both make it w/ some sort of scholarship.

K_twin...what were your stats? I am an international and was trying to figure whether I had any chance...

If you're OOS or international, then you do not find out until admissions results are announced.
It's really about more than the stats, but if you're interested in that sort of thing, then I'm pretty sure I still have a stats profile floating around on CC, and a bunch of us on a CC thread about a year ago created a web page with our collated stats. theindianthread15 - The Indian Thread #15! (although now that I see that, it makes for moderately excruciating reading. (brevity = good)

my mistake, 1000.

meh no regents for me. 2350, 3.95, 3 800's, usamo, usnco, siemens regional finalist. o well.

W-T-F. That's messed up.

Stupidkid: Its not like you were going to go to Cal anyways...thats probably why they passed you up.

I don't know that for sure yet. I might fall in love with berkeley when I visit during spring break.

You're already going to stanford, so why do you care?
