<p>Regents really won’t help you as far as med school is concerned, as it isn’t something awarded based on your college work, it is based on your high school work (and all you have to do to maintain it is get a 3.0 gpa).</p>
<p>Few med schools will place much weight on your high school achievements.</p>
<p>That being said, it does carry a significant amount of prestige within the university as well as tangible benefits. You get guaranteed housing for 4 years, $4000 ($1000 each year), and a faculty sponsor. It’s a pretty sweet deal, and people will definitely respect you greatly for it, but when it comes to grad school, most schools won’t care about it.</p>
