Regents Berkeley v. UVa v. USC

Looking for input in my decision. I'm studying business, most likely real estate and/or entrepreneurship. I live in California.

I was awarded Regent's Scholarship for UCB and they have, to my shock, offered a full ride, but I believe this will change as they verify my financial aid information as I do not qualify for anywhere near that much (most likely none at all) need-based aid. The perks of being an RC Scholar still offers a lot of incentive to go though. I would plan to go to Haas my junior year.

UVa and USC have given me the impression that I would have more fun there. I live in Southern California so the weather at USC and Berkeley would be nice but my entire family is from Virginia, and we visit twice a year so I am familiar with the weather in Charlottesville and I think that won't be an issue.

I might "fit in" better at USC and UVa. I'm politically conservative and I enjoy the more laid back work hard play hard lifestyle at USC and UVa. I'm sure I can find like-minded people at Berkeley, but my gut tells leans towards the others in this area.

The cost of USC and OOS UVa is obviously more than in-state Berkeley, so my parents like this option a lot, but they also stress that I shouldn't feel obligated to make my decision based on cost.

I'm grateful that I get to make this decision, and I feel that I can't go wrong with these schools. Any advice for me?

Dude, potential for Berkeley Haas full ride?! How can you turn that down?

P.S. Don’t worry about the liberal bent. Plenty of College Republicans on campus. Besides Haas being up at the top of the hill is removed from the protests on Sproul. I’m from Socal and found Berkeley a very intellectually refreshing environment.

I can’t! I just want to keep my options open in case they re-evaluate the scholarship offer in the coming weeks.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the choices. I think USC has the strongest real estate program out of the three. I’d probably lean towards going with the cheapest option in the end.

Lol it’s Business school. You’ll find political conservatives. Don’t worry.

How were your FA offers from the other schools?

Congrats on the big Regents offer. Has Cal changed its policy? I thought that when Regents was a large offer (at Cal, not the other UCs), there had to be a substantial need component. Maybe that’s changed?

are there real advantages of the regents scholarship for a pre-med student?

Great choices, congratulations. But it’s hard to beat ‘free’ as a price.
