In reference to college admission, how critical–truly are they of the regents exams. In a nutshell, I’ve gotten above the 90’s (95’s) on all of my regents with the exception of my chem regents. Sadly, I ended up scoring an 85, though mastery according to my rather rotund teacher, he was concerned with my grade on the test, and the grade I’ve had all year (90’s). It doesn’t seem to fit, nor will ever when putting it in juxtaposition with our students from various schools from across the country. My guidance counselor keeps saying “It’s fine, blah blah…etc.” Nevertheless, I’m inconsolable until i recieve some reassurance. Please, in laymen terms…“holler” <—(so cheesy.)

what is a regent exam?

It doesn't matter too much.

I assume you live in NY such as myself where there are the regents. If you plan on applying to a SUNY school, they might take a look. However, besides that most schools outside of NY won't check because they're not familiar with them.

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe you have the option of the grades not appearing on your transcript unless the school requires them to be.

As someone who graduated from a NY highschool, my counselors said colleges do consider Regents scores(how much exactly, i don't know), but as anything over an 85 is mastery you should be fine (where you apply may also make a difference)

I really don't think they matter. I had 90+ on all of mine except my sciences (I think I got bio=78, chem=77, physics=65), and believe me, it didn't affect where I was accepted at all.

75 Physics, 67 Chemistry, 65 Both Math A and B....Got into Williams as an Early Write

Regents are not very important but they can be used for comparison against other New Yorkers seeking admission because it is a standardized test.

Wow, that's absolutely terrible Oedipus. Hehe, I'm not a mean-spirited guy, just saying :). Considering I've never taken easier tests in my life. Especially the Math A and Chem.

regents didn't really effect me at all and i got into four top 20 schools.

most of my scores were 90+, but i got a 79 in earth science + chemistry, and a 69 in physics (i am horrible at science).

but still, the numbers are on the transcript.
