I'm a Regents Candidate. Does this entitle a letter come March?

they tell you you are in when you go to that interview thing

Oh, sweetness. Haha, it's unexpected great news. I thought it was just another ad at first.

post them stats

Mine were rather mediocre.

Wanted Major: Economics

ACT: 32

SAT: didn't take

GPA: Indicated as 4.0 UW (it's actually a bit lower, but they didn't have option for A-'s on UC app). Most rigorous courseload available. Most rigorous ever taken at my school by far to specify o_o.

SAT II: 790 Math II, 540 Lit <-- This is what boggles me. I did take Physics and have significantly higher for other colleges I applied to, but not in time for the UC deadline.

ECs: Various community service totaling maybe 700 hours. mostly as math tutor for 540 of them.

Baseball 2nd base, right field.

Awards: None significant. No National Merit.

Others: I took 2 summer classes at Yale. UCSD Economics class. Georgetown International Relations and American Politics noncredit programs.

Why do I think I got Regents: Both my parents are deaf and I know sign language. And I thought they skim the essays...

Essays: important for Regent's. Congratulations! When're you interviewing?

March 8. Sunday I think.

Dress is semi-formal I'm guessing?

Hey congrats. I got in too, but I was skeptical , at first, when everyone was saying it's an automatic acceptance if you get invited for the regent's scholarship.

I would dress to impress :)

Yeah, it's just something that seems too good to be true haha. Especially because I had no idea they do this o_o.

Dress to impress, I'll try. I just don't want to walk in with like a full on tuxedo shiznit haha.

Maybe some diesel jeans, a clean shirt, and a sports coat

I would say no jeans.

slacks and collared shirt would be best I think

you think it's funny to walk in with a full on suit, but trust me someone there will be wearing one.

put it this way, these formal scholarships are the types you want to dress well. (collared shirts and slacks, maybe sports coat, etc) I went to interview with this one college's dean (of something or another) and I arrived with about three people waiting in line. They were all wearing something nice and fancy. Me? I had on these baggy jeans, a sports jacket and t-shirt. I'm pretty the interviewer was surprised to see me in that attire as well. lol

Jeans can look nice T_T.

Jean do look nice but it's not about how "nice" it looks. It has to be clothes that say "I only wear this on formal occassions." lol.

Boo. Semi-formal ftw

Yes - you're basically in. Congratulations.

For the Regents interview, dress semi-formal. They want to find out whether or not you have any particular interests/passions that will help you contribute to the community. It's mainly about screening out those overcompetitive people with no life.

Got this information from a professor who's been doing lots of these interviews.

ohh thanks excelblue. very helpful

WHy do they ask which subject you're interested in. If I choose biology, will they ask me about my interest in biology?

It's to generally try to match you up with a professor of that subject area (of course, they may not have enough Bio professors if you choose Bio and give you someone random).

So I won't have to know anything about biology if I pick that subject. Or will he/she ask me "how will you pursue your career in biology?" or "why have you chosen biology?"
