Some students get it at Berkeley but not UCLA, and vice versa, but there are some students who get it at both. If you didn't get it at Cal, don't sweat it--it's nothing personal, and it doesn't mean you won't get in. FWIW, I'd gotten regents at UCLA and some other UCs, and likely letters from Stanford/Yale/Columbia, and wasn't nominated for regents at Cal. (I did end up getting in, with a hefty alumni scholarship, so it was okay.)

The So Cal location is at the Los Angeles Marriott Hotel. I got a weekend time, so I think it depends on your prospective major.

Socal interviews are all on a weekend I think (someone will have to check this for me), but RCSA is sending a delegation of officers and coordinators down the 3/7-3/8 weekend.

dang,, those who got it must have hella good stats. I had a 2190, triple 800 SAT II's, and a 4.27 UC GPA = one B.

Wait, so does that mean that if you're invited for the interview, you area admitted into Berkely for sure? And what's the UCLA one everyone is talking about. I know there was one due today. Is that what everyone's talking about?

To tkd2009: I got an interview and you have higher stats than me (except for GPA)

yes. getting an invitation to regents = getting in to Cal. Grats to those :)
As already said before,
UCLA has their own RS too (Pretty sure most other UCs too? Not too sure).
Some students get invitations from both LA and B, others get one or the other as aforementioned. (Don't know anything about anything due though, sorry.)

Now that I didn't get Regents for Berkeley I'm suddenly really worried, do you guys think if you got invited for Regents at UCLA you can be fairly certain you will get into Berkeley too even if you didnt get Regents here?

ok, I just talked to all the top 2.5% of my class (which im a part of) and the only people who got regents were from L&S.

There was even a person with a 2370 SAT, AND a better UC GPA than me who didnt get regents either.
I applied for mechanical engineering and he applied for EECS.

"Now that I didn't get Regents for Berkeley I'm suddenly really worried, do you guys think if you got invited for Regents at UCLA you can be fairly certain you will get into Berkeley too even if you didnt get Regents here?"

I somehow think it's likely. I got both the Regents scholarships for one thing, and think it's not very easy to get LA's. Berkeley and LA are probably about as hard to get into, and getting a Regents' Scholarship at either school sounds like a good bet you could get into either school. After all, the scholarship definitely depends a lot on raw academic grades and scores, and that's a huge criterion for admission into public schools.

Scholarships are independent of what college you applied to, AFAIK.

Also, numbers aren't everything; they just prove you're good at taking tests. What they're looking for: potential. Hence, essays/extracurriculars are important too.

Now im pretty sure its EXTREMELY hard to get a regents invitation as if you applied engineering. I've know so many people from the top 1% who did not get regents when they applied engineering.

Anyone can confirm this?

I'm talking 2200, 2250, 2300, 2370, GPA's with straight A's. etc etc.

@tkd

I got Regents, EECS.

For regents, I think they look more for extracurricular activities and stuff like that

N Y C - interesting...
alithyiaiden - but this would also mean you have to have superb EC's PLUS superb statistics

Well you need both, but it's just that people have only been comparing GPA and SAT scores. YOu still need good stats, I'm sure, but if a person with lower stats gets regents, it doesn't mean the people with higher stats than he or she will get regents also.

Also, I don't really think it's really true, but people believe that they take the top X percent and randomly, from those people, choose who to get the regents.

Keep in mind the Regents money/award is to try to recruit students who would otherwise choose schools like HYPMS. If they think you have a good chance to go there, they may be more inclined to award you and hopefully change ur mind.

Why would Regents lure kids away from HYPSM? Isn’t it only $1000? I don’t get why it’s so prestigious if the award isn’t that big.

I don’t know about Berkeley, but at UCLA the scholarship comes with a lot of extra perks. Also, it’s $1000 plus whatever financial aid you need, not just $1000.

Still, that’s not a huge difference especially for people with already high EFCs and for OOS students.
