Hi. I just got this letter saying I got some sort of Regents Scholarship and Regents Scholars Program. I was rather shocked haha. I thought I had done extensive research about Pepperdine, but NO ONE ever mentioned any sort of Honors college or anything. Please please give me as much information as possible about this program, and please share how you think it would compare with an education at Duke (the other school I'm considering right now.) I am the first person from my school to apply to Pepperdine, so my college counselers are really unfamiliar with the school. I will hopefully be able to visit...we will see.

I got this too, so I'd love some information.

I'm probably going to go to Pepperdine over UCLA or Berkeley.

Congrats on getting the Regents Scholarship! I'm currently a freshman, and also received Regents.

Pretty much, in past years the Regents Scholars just got the money, and that was it. Starting this year they created an actual program for us. For one thing, we were all put in the same dorms (girls in DeBell, guys in Miller) so we could better get to know each other.

Throughout the year there were a few dinners we were invited to attend with various members of the Pepperdine community (one was a dinner with the Dean, our most recent was dinner with the Board of Regents). There were four lectures that were part of the Dean's Lecture Series held in Smothers Theater through the year, and they asked that we would help to host them (pretty much attend a small reception before the lecture, pass out programs when people came in, and at the end a couple would help bring a microphone to audience members with questions). They also organized a trip to the Getty Villa for us, and one of the professors was our guide for the day.

None of these events were mandatory to attend. Of course, they prefered that you did go, but if you had something else scheduled at the time it was no big deal (and there were some people that hardly went to anything, regardless of if they actually had something else to do or not).

They told us that next year, in addition to again housing the Regents Scholars together, they're also going to try to organize it so they'll have classes together as well. I don't think the classes themselves will be of a higher standard, but they want the Scholars to be together. But they did say they're hoping this will become a sort of honors program, so I don't know if in the future they're planning on actually giving Regents Scholars different classes than the regular GEs.

So as it currently is, the Regents Scholars Program isn't really like the Honors Programs other schools have, but I think that's what they're hoping to go towards. Like I said, this is the first year they started the program, so they're still working things out.

Can those of you that received Regents please post your stats. Thanks!!

You said you were all in the same dorms - where is Miller?

Miller is dorm #15 (Debell's #16), located on lower dorm road, down near the baseball field. They are planning on putting the Scholars together again next year, but I don't know if it will be the same dorms we're in this year or not.

kmkord: This fall, Regents Scholars also take a class together called the "Great Books Colloquium." I'm a Regents Scholar, and here are my stats:
