Has anyone received notification that they got the Regents scholarship at UCSD for 2013? If so when and how did you receive the notification?

I got a phone call a few days ago. The caller told me that a packet will come in the mail. And people here are saying that decisions are all coming out tomorrow.

On the web portal - does it indicated the Regents scholarship? When I click on the My Financial Aid tab it says that they did not receive my FAFSA - which is true as I did not apply for need based aid. The Regents scholarship is supposed to be need blind - byt the my financial aid page says there is no package because they don’t have a FAFSA. “A Financial Aid Estimate is not available because we have not received your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act Application or there may be a possible mismatch of information.”

Has anyone received a Regents scholarship that shows up on the portal where they have not filed a FAFSA? If so what does it say?

I didn’t file for FAFSA and I did receive Regents. No phone call ahead either.

Same here, I didn’t do FAFSA but received the Regents Scholarship. If you click on ‘My Financial Aid Estimate’ on the Admission Status page, it should tell you if you got Regents or not.

@AirforceWuhn where on the admissions portal does it tell you about the Regents scholarship?

@archaic - Thanks! so does the My financial aid estimate mention that you did not file a FAFSA as well as tell you that you got the Regents?

@Airforcewhun - I think the question is how you discovered you received the regents scholarship. More specifically, was it stated on your acceptance letter or did you get a separate communication?

@CrsPrnt: No, it doesn’t mention the FAFSA at all. The message I posted above is all that there is. There’s also a “Continue to Awards” button that goes to a page listing the actual amount I get from Regents ($2000/year).

It doesn’t say that I got Regents in my Acceptance Letter though, which I thought was a bit strange. I did get a call on Thursday but no one was at home to pick it up.

@archaic: I didn’t get the congrats message you quoted, but under my financial aid estimate it lists an amount under Regents (and I was told via phone call). This is strange.

@alwaysawriter: Hmm, really? So when you click the Financial Aid Estimate link, you immediately go to the page listing the amount? (Btw, for me, the page listing the amount also has the same message I posted above - except without the ‘Congratulations’ and ‘Best wishes…’)

I didn’t know I got Regents either but just clicked on the Financial aid section and got the info. I didn’t think I’d get any money because I didn’t receive any call ahead. I was pleased that I got accepted and even better yet news with Regents.

@archaic: No; first I get a page that says the disclaimers like “if you change your FAFSA then fin aid will change,” but there’s no mention of Regents. And then on the page of dollar amounts, it says under scholarships/grants: Regents Scholarship: $X/yr

@alwaysawriter: Oh… so you applied for FAFSA? Maybe that’s why it’s different. Did you get $2000/year or more?

@archaic: I logged into MyApplication again, and there WAS an acknowledgement of the scholarship. But all it said was that the aid package “includes your Regent Scholarship.” There was no separate congrats page or anything like that. Maybe it’s because I got a phone call ahead of time? And so they assumed I knew about it? Not sure. But it’s listed, so I guess that’s what matters.

Yeah, what matters most is that you got it!
Hmm Regents doesn’t seem like such a big deal for SD as for the other UCs (Davis, Irvine, SB - which all sent emails/letters and put the Regents notifications in prominent areas)… I wonder how many Regents Scholarships they offer.

alwaysawriter, do you plan on attending the Overnight Stay Program for Regents Scholars? It’s April 5th, and Triton Day is the next day.

I don’t know yet. If I get rejected by UCLA next Friday evening (can you tell I’m totally not anxious at all LOL), then I’ll sign up for the OSP. I’m just worried that maybe I ought to sign up now in case they run out of spots…but I don’t want to waste the effort if I get into UCLA.

I received an email today about Scholars day for Regents.

Just got an email too! Yay, it really wasn’t a mistake that I got $2k/year xD

@alwaysawriter: I doubt you’ll be rejected from UCLA!
Yeah, I’m still waiting for UCLA and Berkeley decisions too before I make any final decisions (although I’m pretty sure I’m going to go to UCSD because I didn’t get Regents for LA or Cal, but might change my mind after going to the Admit Days…). But I figured I should sign up for the OSP immediately just in case spots DO run out. The $60 fee is refundable until March 31.

Hey guys,

Can you post your stats? I’m just a bit surprised that I did not get Regents :(
