Son received the UCSB regents award in the mail today. Pretty thrilling...anyone else?

Me! I’m quite excited :)

S got his in the mail today too. $6,000 per year is a nice amount!

If you dont mind can you post stats…kind of surprised I did not get letter

GPA 4.25 SAT 2200 ACT 34

Since I also live in San Diego I am assuming my letter should have come yesterday

Also have you already been accepted to UCSB?

My son got it today - GPA ( 4.0 W / 4.4 UW ), ACT 35 , SAT2 Math / Chem :800/800. He has a regent’s interview at Berkeley today. If he gets Berkeley Regent, I suspect he will lean towards it - but the $6000/year is an impressive number from UCSB … the assumption is that he has been accepted. He has until May 1st to accept or turn it down.

Its funny, there was really nothing in the packet confirming admission to UCSB. However, my son is ELC, and they guarantee admission to ELC students (although not choice of major if I am remembering correctly), so we knew he would be accepted. Did you get the invitation to the reception for High-Achieving Students? Not sure if only regents scholars got that, but the regents letter referenced hoping to see him at the reception. My son won’t be at the reception – its the same time as his Regents interview for Berkeley in LA. He is also leaning towards Berkeley, I think, but the College of Creative Studies at SB looks amazing, and if he gets accepted to that, his might have a harder decision.

If you receive an ELC, then you’re already in UCSB.

If you receive a Regents Scholarship, then its a given that you got accepted to UCSB.

$6K is a HUGE monetary amount. . .I’d say be proud of it. :)

33dmjjm. you may get it today with your stats. My son got it yesterday. 4.0 uw, 4.3 w SAT 2100 SATII Math 800 English 730. ACT 34. Best wishes!

Yes SDMomof3 he did receive the invitation for high achieving students in San Jose. He is not an ELC since the school screwed up sending his info. but it does not seem to have affected anything at this stage. He is pretty intrigued by the school of creative studies - he was contacted by a Physics Prof. from UCSB who urged him to apply there last month. Overall it seems like for Physics while Berkeley has a great program, UCSB may have a better undergraduate experience at CCS. But my son is also heavily influenced by reputation, so I suspect it will be Berkeley, but I just chatted with him and he thinks UCSB is worth a visit …

Entire UC application process is interesting and confusing. Received “interest” from UCSD, UCLA and but nothing from UCI or UCSB…

dadmm85, my son is also a prospective physics major, and also got a phone call from one of the physics profs at CCS. My son’s thinking is probably the same as your son’s – Berkeley’s got the reputation. Also, my son is not a partier, so that aspect of UCSB is a negative for him. I would like him to keep an open mind, however.

SDMomof3, if you read the fine print of the scholarship letter it says that you have admission into the honors program - I think that means they have admission into the CCB.

I’m not sure of that. The College of Letters & Sciences has an honors program. See [Letters & Science Honors Program ::](http://www.honors.ltsc.ucsb.edu/) that is different from the College of Creative Studies. I don’t know if there are other honors programs in the other colleges. Either way, I am not assuming it means that, since I was under the impression that there are only about 300 students total in CCS, and the number of Regents Scholars, across 4 years, is much larger. I guess we will find out soon enough!

^^ Is the invitation to the high achieveing students reception limited to regents scholars?

Don’t think so, Matrix. My S was also invited to the high-achieving reception, is an applicant to the CCS (Art) but no Regent’s.

After reading past year threads, we’re guessing that those invited to the reception, as well as those receiving Regents are admits. However, I’m not so sure it reveals much about CCS. Anyone know more?

Thanks, madbean. Same here. I think some of the UCs also require an application for financial aid in order to receive the regents, although I didn’t research which ones specifcally.

Do you have to apply for this scholarship for it to come? I received a letter for the highly-achieving applicants but nothing about a scholarship from UCSB.

I got the high achieving reception invitation, no mention of any scholarship …
I filed my FAFSA on March 1st, Cal Grant just told me they willnot give me Cal Grant (I think my parents make too much)

So I was chosen to interview for the regents at uc Berkeley, and they said they covered full tuition based on financial need. however as i have a huge efc i will only get the 1000 honorary scholarship. For UCSB is this different? is it a guaranteed 6000 scholarship if you get it? and not based on financial need?
