The Alumni Scholarship isn’t offered by UCLA, it’s offered by the Alumni Association.

@nose2Dgrind: I thought the Alumni scholarship was offered to like 30% of the applicants?

Not trying to bring your hopes down or anything, but I do have a friend who received this, but was ultimately rejected from UCLA. Nonetheless, I’d say this is a very good sign and your acceptance is likely!

S got an email to apply for Alumni scholarship directly from UCLA. He said it was no big deal as a number of kids from his school got it too. Made it seem like a mass email to all applicants. What can one tell me about this?

Did everyone get their emails yesterday or do you think people can still get emails today

(going off of last year’s data)

^^ I believe that the Alumni scholarship is different, and less prestigious and selective, than the regents scholarship.

I also received an invitation to apply to Alumni scholarships. Any info on which applicants receive this invitation?

I GOT IT TOO! YAYY!

But yeah, it is pretty odd though, because I’m rank 7 and I got it, but the rank 1 in our class didn’t… and I only have a 4.17 (weighted) and 3.89 (unweighted) GPA. And my composite SAT was only 1940… so maybe it’s by school and includes SAT+GPA?

^Alumni or Regents?

Regents.
Is there a big difference between the two?

^Yes. How are your AP tests?

Ryan,

I got straight 3s on AP Language/Comp, AP Biology, and AP U.S. History.

Anyone knows how are students selected to compete for the regents scholarship? It says that only 1.5% of students get selected, so that’s only 922 out of over 61,000 applicants this year. They must have SOME tedious process…

Being invited to apply for the alumni scholarship means nothing. Winning it is difficult because, as mentioned above, it has several rounds of interviews.

I have a 4.58 weighted gpa, 4.0 unweighted, ranked number 2 (might get valedictorian) and have a 2190 sat. Lots of APs with 5’s and good sat 2 scores and I didn’t get the invitation. Plus, if anyone is gonna need fin aid, I will. But I was invited to apply for the alumni scholarship. So hopefully I do get some aid if I get in.

Being invited to apply for Regents Scholarship is a very good sign and acceptance is likely. I think something like only about 1000 freshman applicants are invited to apply, about 300 scholarships are offered and the target is 100 Regents Scholar will matriculate. If selected you will get at least $2000 per year. If you have financial need, it will totally be covered with no loans. You also get many perks like priority class enrollment (big advantage).

Anyone can go to the Alumni Association web site and apply for Alumni Scholarship so being invited doesn’t mean much. But being selected is just as prestigious. You get at least $1000 per year and possibly more. You also get many perks.

I deleted my email…do you need a letter of rec for this scholarship?

Yes you do

does anyone mind posting their email…I really dont want to have ask them to resend it.

thanks

Should I be worried if I didn’t get the e-mail yet? : (
Or are they still in the process of sending the invitations out?
