Regents Scholarship @ UCB, UC SCORE of 531

Is an UC score of 531 roughly in the ballpark of Regents Scholars at
UCB? (assuming awards, personal statement etc are decent).

what do you mean UC Score?

UC score is based on calculations on the SATs and GPA… though it
is used for minimum eligibility, regents would knwo where their UC scores
fell 9the range); see for example [here](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html</a>)

what would a 4.1 UC GPA and a 2270 be?

Maximum UC score i is 500
ACT: (100+100+100)X0.667 + 100+100+100=500
SAT: (100+100+100) +100 +100 =500

What ARE Regents Scholarship, if I may ask? (sad how I’m planning to apply here and I do not know what they are)

I have a 436 as of now. I’m retaking the SATs so hopefully it will go higher.

I too, would like to know the general UC score for Regents at Cal.

[…from Page 30 of the application instructions for undergraduates…]( http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/pdf/APPInstructions_FR.pdf)

:)
Regents Scholarships
Students with outstanding academic records and personal
achievement are considered for Regents Scholarships, the University’s
most prestigious scholarship award. Regents Scholarships may
be either honorary or need-based. Depending upon the campus,
annual Regents Scholarship awards range from $1,000 honoraria to
stipends that cover full financial need for students who qualify for
financial aid. Additional privileges such as preferential housing or
library access are available to Regents Scholars at many campuses.
Regents Scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen for up
to four years. If you are considered for a Regents Scholarship, one
or more campuses may invite you for an interview.

(Page 32 gives some more info specific to UCB)

can someone tell me quickly how to calculate UC score

Never heard of that…but I’ve heard of how applicants are rated from score of 1-5 by multiple ad com people. Maybe if you get all 5’s you get interview or something. Forgot the details.

Kidchicago, here is the information to calculate the UC score

If you took the SAT Reasoning Test: The University converts your highest scores in critical reading, math and writing from a single sitting and two SAT Subject Tests from different subject areas to equivalent UC Scores (see translation table below). Then all five UC Scores are added together to produce your UC Score Total (critical reading + math + writing + subject test 1 + subject test 2).

First you have to convert your SAT scrore to UC score for individual subjects
See the web site http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html</a></p>

…follow the link to Post#3 and it will take you to a
calculator

:)

is 470 around the range of regent scholars?

also how could the score be 530 since the max is 500 right

… you are right chicago… :o not 530 but 498… ( I was doing something
 by including something else)

the last time I posted a question on the UCB boards, one helpful person
answered after repeated bumps…hopefully some of the
UCB regents scholar reading this board will be kind enough to
share their insights…

Hi, I’m a Regents :]
My UC Score is 466. But I’m really not sure whether they rely on UC Scores. I believe they select Regents by talents or backgroud… something that makes you stand out. I’ll leave a short profile on what i think made me stood out:
I’m fluent in 5 languages; I’m 100% asian born in south america & lived there most of my life; I’ve been in the US for only 3 years , starting HS sophomore year; I was able to become salutatorian within 3 years; I was the vicepresident of speech and debate.

Here’s a short description of a couple Regents friends, maybe they can help you see the “Regents criteria”:
-This guy is in the top 5% of his class, when he was little lived in different places of the world including Romania & Singapore, plays saxophone in a jazz ensemble, self taught guitar and base, has made projects on music recordings, works at a prestigious company where he designs programs (also self taught).
-This girl is also the salutatorian, plays violin (in orchesta), is the school news paper editor, won awards for her writings, excels at English
-This girl is top5%, is an intern in National Institute of Health for a year and half, has only been in the US for 3 years, excelled in a competitive high school (anyone familiar with the book “The Overachivers” drawn from real life experiences at Walt Whitman high school?), strong in science and very sure in her pursue of carrer: she wants to do research in science field.

I’m not familiar with their GPA or SAT. But I’m pretty sure they are very high. I seldom talk about SAT scores when I’m with my friends (since is something that really does not concern a college student anymore… you’ll know what i mean when you get here :P) but so far I personally do not remember any Regents with GPA<4.0 or SAT<2000. But note: the fact that I do not remember does not mean there isn’t. I’m just providing a personal observation of my peers.

Hope it helps. CC is great :] it helped me a bunch when i applied colleges :]

btw… i just noticed, how did you calculate UC score of 531 if the max. score, as Ijmom posted, is 500?

:) That was very helpful :)

Thank you very much! :D

oh and I made the correctionin post#14 …

Thanks again

you’r welcome ;)

hi guys i think the regents thing is pretty random
I think it’s based on more about your background..and kind of a combination of everything. High GPA and SAT alone and some Key club stuff are not going to get you in. I went to a quite competitive school and we had around 5-10 regents people. Surprisingly people with really high SAT (2400) and GPA (4.8) didn’t get it.
However, theey seem to like to choose people who have overcame some difficulties in their lives…so if you did, try to talk about it in your essay I guess.
And in the end, I don’t think regents make that much of a difference besides the scholarship if you have financial need. If you are aiming it for the money, you should totally apply for scholarship like the Gates one..or whatever you can find.
