So I just got an email saying I was a candidate for the regents' scholarship!
Does this mean I was accepted?
This would be my first one, and if so, i'm pretty excited right now =)

According to this, yes.
“If you receive this notification, congratulations! You have been admitted to UC Berkeley (and what’s more, you’ve found out over a month before anyone else knows their admissions decision). No, you won’t get the official welcome letter that everyone else gets (yet). Just revel in your joy alone (or with anyone else you know who’s also a Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship candidate) for now.”

thank you so much!
this is wonderful :)

Although you’re not officially admitted, it’s practically similar to a likely letter.

better than nothing i guess!
i read it’s called the “love letter” from berkeley.
best valentine’s day yet haha

No, you’re definitely in…Unlike UCLA, Cal’s Regents candidates are definite acceptances. Congratulations! Maybe I’ll see you at some RCSA meeting or something :)

@inconnu: You 100% positive on this? I know UCLA is different, but I’m still reading varying responses on Cal’s system, from the past and now.

@anagensis: the person who posted that said they got the notification a while ago, but just posted on the 22nd.

It has been a sure acceptance in the past, provided you didn’t lie or your application or do something to get your offer revoked. If you received the invitation, you now get to forget worrying about getting into Berkeley and start worrying whether you got the scholarship or not!

^ what he said.

I really think the only way to know for sure is for Cal to give someone either an indirect or direct confirmation of invitation=acceptance.

I must admit, however, that after going through the online literature for Regent’s invitees, the vocabulary and tone of the information seems to be enthusiastic about getting us to attend, something I don’t think they’d do if we could still get rejected.

Then again, you had UCLA pulling their nonsense last year, so I’m still anxious for official confirmation.

@inconnu-How exactly do you know acceptance is ensured (for your application year at least)?

I guess they are looking at past threads about this (last year, last last year, etc.) I only read one account of someone saying their friend got the invite to apply but did not get into the school itself (however, this might have been confused for UCLA’s situation).

But that’s my guess.

^could you give more information on that exception?

UCLA has had a rocky time with their Regent’s scholarship. They cut the minimum annual scholarship from $5500 to $2000, which is lame given that it’s probably the most selective Regents’ scholarship.
April 2008: [UCLA Financial Aid Office-Scholarship Office](UCLA Financial Aid Office-Scholarship Office)
January 2010: [UCLA Financial Aid Office-Scholarship Office](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/uclascholarships/regents.html)
Maybe this affected their admissions.

@hmmmmm: The person didn’t say much. All they said was that their friend got invited to apply to the scholarship but ended up getting rejected. He/she did not affirm as to whether it was Cal or UCLA, or if they misheard/misremembered.

HAHA if UCLA had been 5500, instead of 2000, I would have gone there instead.

Irvine was by far the most generous when I applied…It sounds ridiculous now, but I recall they offered me nearly 11k/yr through Regents, all merit-based.

I just don’t see why if the invite=acceptance, they don’t just say so. There’s a lot of hinting and suggesting in the invitations of acceptance, but the fact that they don’t just say so as to whether we’ve been admitted makes me think their not making any promises, just as UCLA seems to do.

I know about last year, last last year, etc, but last year=/=this year. If Cal would equivocate less and be more straightforward, I may be happy…but not till then.

(However, if the first person to get have their interview on this board (ie ~3/1) could post whether their acceptance was mentioned, that would be a clincher.)

haha i agree! i can’t wait for my interview (though it’s just a tad nerve-wracking…)

When are you going, kekelina? I’m going on the 6th of March :X

@hmmmmm: check your private message for something.

@cassenoix Mine is on march 4th.
