Regents

i know this might not be the best forum to ask; but if someone gets regents from both cal and ucla, does that means she will have a good chance at the top notch private schools? especially if she reuses the short answers she wrote for berkeley for another school, say stanford...
just wondering

thanks in advance

I was under the impression that the Regents scholarship was based on merit...and if someone who had SAT of 2350 did not get it...then what gives?

Does anyone know what percentage of those invited to apply actually receive a scholarship?

I got the UCLA Regents invitation but not the Berkeley one - kind of weird because I have extremely good numbers (2360/4.0 UW) and lots of ECs. Then again, I don't want to go to Berkeley at all, so I guess it's okay. Just wondering how they select who to invite. Or maybe e-mails are still going out?

ugh ill give you the link
http://students.berkeley.edu/fao/scholarships/RCSselct.html

dont judge so quickly because it is based on SAT, SAT 2, GPA, and EC

and im sure more stuff are being sent out

Yeah, I know how you feel, csquare. Kind of a disappointment, right? I feel as if I am a strong candidate in other areas besides SAT scores and GPA, but who knows exactly what they are looking for. I guess my judgment can only take me so far.
Oh well, congrats to everyone else who got it!

i think the easiest way to double check if you got it is go sign up a myberkeleyapplication
log in
and see if there is message with a congratulation thing for regents

wait, does receiving an invitation to apply for regents mean that we are going to be accepted?

or is it only when you get regents (not just invitation) that acceptance is guaranteed?

i think the invite means you are accepted (according to last year's posts)

Receiving an invitation. I've read that when you go to check in for your interview, they tell you that you've been accepted.

2350...didn't get it either.

aww shucks...what's with that?

Hmm... did you guys who did get the invite have 2350+ SAT scores? Maybe there's a pattern.

Do you guys know how many people eventually get the scholarship in the end? I know around 1000 people get regent but I am not sure how hard it is to actually get the scholarship.

From their website...

The Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship is UC Berkeley's most prestigious scholarship, and is awarded annually to approximately 200 incoming undergraduates, including freshmen (for four years) and entering advanced standing students (for two years).

I got the email at 10:17 AM (according to gmail) and the letter arrived today in a large envelope as well.

SAT Reasoning was 2360 if it matters.

From what I've read in another older post in this forum, about 50% of the 1000 people (500 ppl) will actually get the scholarship. And out of these 500 people, about 200 will eventually choose to go to UCB and take advantage of the award.

I got the email from UCB also, but did not get one from UCLA yet... the UCLA award seems much more generous. But anyways, I am happy =)
Congrats to all those who have received the notice as well.

wow so does that mean i am accepted?

The UCLA letters were sent quite a while ago. In fact, the essays are due February 16th at 5:00 PM sharp. I think it's more difficult to get the UCLA scholarship, but it is more than five times the base amount Berkeley gives.

Whatever, I got into my first choice school, UC Berkeley!
