Regents

i just got a letter today "considering" me for the regents scholarship. did anyone else get one??

Congratulations on the consideration. Hopefully you'll get it! I was a Regents' Scholar during my days at UCI and it was one of the main reasons I chose to go there.

thanks! well we'll see if i actually GET the scholarship haha.

Hopefully this will at least get you to strongly consider UCI while you await admission and scholarship notification. The Regents' lifts a huge financial burden and even allows you to attend summer school for free. I think you'll also have money left over during the year that they'll give to you as a stipend. If you and your family have been saving money for college, you can keep that in the bank and access it four years from now when you get ready for your postgraduate degree!

thanks for the advice!

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to post them or send me a private message. What are you thinking about majoring in?

chemical engineering

Almost everyone I know at UCI who majored in chemical engineering did a double major in chemistry. There is so much overlap with the two majors that it's worth it. If you end up with the Regents, you will be able to take summer school for free so that might be something to think about.

There are a lot of research opportunities available as a chemical engineer. If you'd like me to put you in touch with any profs in chemistry or chem. engineering, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

What about chancellors? Anyone get that yet?

I really want it... getting admitted at UCSD is looking grim (I'm a sub-par applicant and my major is impacted) so it looks like UCI for me.

As far as I know, UCI won't send out any scholarship notifications until early to mid March. I know that the students who are being considered for the Regents' got some kind of letter a while back, but I don't think that they send out a consideration letter for the Chancellor's, so don't worry. Getting the Chancellor's is still pretty competitive, so if you feel that you are a "sub-par applicant", I wouldn't count on getting a Chancellor's Scholarship. The people I know that got it recently probably had SATs in the low to mid 1400s and UC GPAs well over 4.0.

Well, sub-par for UCSD at least

I got the Chancellor's from UCR... not like that's impressive though

A chancellor's scholarship at any UC school is nothing to sneeze at...congratulations! Hopefully something from UCI is on its way.

hey alicantekid, i just got into the campuswide honors program at uci...

Syawn,

Congratulations on getting in to the CHP! As I have stated before, I was part of the CHP, as is yackityack. It's a great program. I assume that you got some kind of invitation for an Honors Day? That's how I remember it happening. If you can, you should definitely check that day out. It really helped me make my decision.

Any word on the Regents' Scholarship yet? Probably not yet, as those usually go out in March. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Way to be. I give you my CHP love. I wish I could volunteer on Honors experience day, which is March 12 I believe, but I'll be gone that day.

Honors Day is always fun. I really enjoy helping out when I can.

hmm how much should CHP factor into my decision for college...? like i can't go to the honors day... so can anyone give me some details? Should I be jumping at the chance to be part of the CHP or would it be better to just attend UCSD sorta thing?

www.honors.uci.edu --I didn't go to honors day either. Personally, I'd take the CHP at UCI over UCSD especially if you're getting a scholarship, but UCSD is a great school too.

dboom-

If you can't attend Honors Day but are still interested in the CHP, you should call the Honors Office and see if you can set something up on another date. I know that they usually do a stay-over program where you can spend the night with a CHP student and attend class with them. You can also go to the honors office and talk to the staff.

Alicante, I got an invitation for the March 12 Honors Day too, but as far as I know, I haven't recieved any notification about being considered for a scholarship.

Could you please tell me a bit about the CHP at UCI? Specifically what privilages does it entail, and do most kids in CHP get some form of scholarship?

Regards.
