Regents

Did anyone find out if they got it?
How do you check?

ahhhh so i thought the decisions for regents didnt come out until end of april, but you can check whether you got the scholarship by going to “mymessages” or something like that and there should be a message that says something like “congratulations, you have received the regents and chancellor’s scholarship…”
good luck!

boo didn’t get it :(, got the nomination though

According to MyMessages on myBerkeleyApplication, I received the Regent’s and Chancellor’s Scholarship. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know about how many of these scholarships are awarded? (Or, on a related note, about what percentage of those named finalists/given interviews for the scholarship are granted it?)

Oh, and congrats anxiousforcollege!

I think 2000 finalists, 200 actually awarded, so quite selective

regents is very prestigious and if you make the right use of the networking it provides, it can certainly take you a long way…
congratulations from a fellow scholar

incognito123, are only 200 scholarships actually awarded in total, or does that number refer only to those who enroll? Just seems a little low to me – I didn’t realize that the program is that selective.

Santabanta, I’ve heard that Regent’s at Berkeley doesn’t really offer that many advantages (at least in comparison to UCLA’s Regent’s program, etc.) – have you been satisfied with your decision to attend Cal, and would you say that you are truly offered more opportunities, perks, etc. in comparison to the average, non-Regent’s student? (Just trying to narrow down my choices at this point – Cal is definitely within the top third of my list, though  )

How much money do Regents Scholars get anyway?
All the stuff online is very vague. I was excited to get it since I thought I was out of the running for it earlier in the year (I’m OOS and didn’t understand that OOS doesn’t interview) so it was a nice surprise.

Regents scholars get 1000 dollars honorarium, plus all their actual financial need met.
I got the interview, and all the interviewer did was praise me and talk about music. Then he went downstairs with me to thank my mom for raising such an accomplished daughter. I was really surprised, but thought I had it…I just got the email that said I didn’t get the scholarship. It’s not that I really mind because I would only be receiving 1000$, but…seriously. Way to keep my hopes up.

^ “plus all their actual financial aid met.” Does this mean that people who aren’t Regents Scholars don’t get their fin aid met? And since Cal only has my FAFSA stuff, that means I guess they’d still want me to pay the exorbitant amount my FAFSA EFC comes out to??

I have no idea. That’s what I thought too: they should at least meet our financial need, right? But on the Regents paper, it advertised the fact so…maybe they don’t meet everybody’s.
Haha, yes. My EFC is over 20,000. I didn’t get Regents for LA either, and they gave me…300$. I was bowled over by joy. I’m expecting the same for Cal.

^Yes and Yes. (to mistofthekane)

Regents is a grant/scholarship for your total financial need. If you have no need (EFC compared to COA), you get a $1000 honorarium.

Everyone else gets awards as they can; most people have all their need met, but it’s often with a balance of grants and loans. Regents scholars, then, won’t have loans.

OH, thanks undecided. That makes sense now.

I was in the exact same situation as you NonSenescent :frowning:
I thought I nailed the interview…

Does anyone know what happens to the Regents Scholars that don’t end up going to Berkeley? Is there like some kind of waiting list? Haha

lol haha i was the opposite!
thought i failed my interview; my interviewer used to be a reporter and asked all of these really hard-hitting questions about berk, what other colleges i applied to and why, and lol i got asked what i thought about asian robots >.< was kind of confused because all of my friends said that their interviewers didn’t even ask them much
did the best i could with answers
i was hecka surprised haha when i found out i got the regents scholarship after all haha
strange how these things work sometimes
and hm i don’t think there is a waiting list for regents…i guess you could call and ask, but this girl standing near me at the regents reception/lunch asked that and i believe the berk admin officer said there was no waiting list (not 100% sure tho)

Regents at UCB and UCLA are really modest compared to Davis where it is 7500 and Santa barbara @ 6500.

and Riverside at 5000.
Maybe the interviewers who actually grill us have more say in the matter.

I don’t have the paper with exact stats in front of me right now, but ~400-500 are offered and ~200 come. There is no waiting list.

The financial aid details are murky, but basically if you get the scholarship and financial aid says you need the money (EFC is below cost of attendance or something like that) they replace all loans and stuff with scholarship money. I believe this covers your expenses, such as food, textbooks, etc. as well, since my friend had his new computer covered under the scholarship.

I’m a little confused. When I was first notified that I won the Regents scholarship, everything but my EFC was covered by the scholarship. Two weeks later, I get a letter from the financial aid office saying I need to take $2,200 in loans per semester… Anyone know what’s up with this?
