Region or national pool of applicants

Does anyone know if we are evaluated along with applicants in the same region or nationally. I am in MAss and I feel the pool of applicants might be bigger here than other less dense areas

At one part or another of the process, you will be evaluated along with 1) other applicants from you HS; 2) other applicants in the region assigned to your regional AO; 3) all domestic applicants.

Oh no, my HS is quite competitive and we have a lot of SCEA

Don’t let that worry you. If you have the qualifications, it won’t hurt you. From my son’s graduating class at a competitive public of ~180 seniors in NYC, Yale accepted 8 SCEA and Harvard accepted 10.

Excellent

Applicants at top universities generally look at students based on their ability to meet institutional needs, not so much the region they come from (although most colleges want students from all 50 states).

Here’s a link to an article that outlines the “elite” college admissions process. Page 11 outlines how applicants are pooled. Hope you find this useful.

@FreePariah very informative. Thank you
I guess Yale would consider my URM and legacy status more or less equally
