So from what I hear, the regional officer reads one's application first, and is familiar with the area's schools. Does that mean they are familiar with ALL schools? Only a handful of people applied to Yale in the past from my school, and I'm wondering does the regional officer really know my school. I know it's all in the paranoia of waiting for December 15, but I'm curious if they would know about school's that not many students apply from.

C’mon… every school? Of course not. They know the main feeders and rely on ASC folks to fill in gaps when possible. Often, it’s a complete unknown besides what the school sends as far as their demographic profile.

Sometimes, in dealing with high schools they don’t know at all, the admissions officer will call the counseling office to chat to develop a better picture. Obviously, admissions officers don’t know every school inside and out, but they do make a real effort to have some understanding of context.

On the plus side, you probably have less students to compete with.
