Regional auditions

I know I've already posted in this forum once today, I'm really sorry. Anyway, I was wondering if there were generally any disadvantages to auditioning in Atlanta. I live in Tennessee and even though I'm getting some of my auditions knocked out in Chicago, I'm afraid I can't afford a hotel room long enough to do all my auditions there. Would this put me at a disadvantage in anyway? I'll probably end up doing my Carnegie Mellon and my Boston U auditions there, possibly some others. I'm doing a show and haven't had time to see which schools on my list actually offer an Atlanta date. Anyway, if anyone has experience auditioning somewhere smaller than LA or New York or Chicago or whatever PLEASE let me know if you feel like it hurt or helped you. Part of me wonders if it would be a good thing, since there typically aren't as many people at ATL auditions.

My D auditioned for SUNY Purchase in Atlanta (during one of our freak snow storms, so very few people showed up). It was one of her favorite auditions, and got her on their wait-list, and in-the-in into the program.

I do not think there is a disadvantage to doing ATL, it should carry the same weight as any other group of “unified” just make sure to plan so that you can get to be seen by the schools you are most interested in attending! I would also “prioritize” and make sure you schedule those auditions 1st. My D had a 3 tiered system. “Pinnacle” (dream schools) got scheduled 1st, combo of campus and Unified depending on school location, then “1st tier” schools she loved and was excited about… but felt she had a marginally better chance of acceptance (might have been b/c only 800 generally audition, not 2000; or that they take 25 girls, not 7) which we scheduled 2nd, then “2nd Tier” schools she was interested in but wasn’t 100% sold on, or ones that she felt were “too close to home” etch which we scheduled last. And then of course, there are walk ins. D only did one- she didn’t like it, or the idea of them. Others do tons and love them- your call. If any of your schools require prescreen, make sure you get them in asap- it leaves more room in the schedule
